Hello Fellow Ags.
I've watching posts from afar for years now, promising myself I would make only one post when this day would come (for fear of opening my mouth and being thrown over the TexAgs grill). and yes. "User name checks out". Thanks to all the good Ags out there that have always supported my son.
My wife and I are natives of Waxahachie and high school sweethearts. Alex was born in Dallas. My wife and I are both FTA'93 (WHOOP! ) and married right after Aggie graduation. Work took us to Utah for several years where Alex played HS football. He played well. Was All State as a QB in some outlets, was 1st team All District with Zach Wilson and was the state of Utah 2018 High School Athlete of the year.
He received a handful of offers but chose to not publish those. He didn't have any of his teammates play at the next level and didn't want to rub their noses in it. And some other schools snubbed him.
Even though we brain washed him maroon, we thought he would take one of the other offers for the money.
But his dream since the crib was to play for the beloved maroon and white on Saturdays. So we backed his dream. Goes without saying it's probably the only school we would have done that for.
He refused to do a fancy signing day or anything since he was in his own words "just a preferred walk on"
He was redshirted his freshman year after winning scout player of the week a handful of times. The rest of our family moved back to Texas summer of 2019, because it's where we belong.
2019 he was awarded Scout Team POY for his hard work. Shortly after that, COVID hit and because we weren't in the state for more than a year, we were still having to pay out of state tuition for him to sit in his bedroom in New Braunfels and take online courses. It would have been cheaper for him to go to a private school. But he had a dream. During that time we would sneak onto an obscure football field where he voluntarily worked out every day but Sunday. Got his 40 under a 4.6 (dad timed).
Fast forward to this year. Fall camp. The boys had a few scheduled days off, however, he went in every day - except for one - as he was helping us move his twin sisters in for their freshman year at Aggieland.
He hasn't missed a day of practice or workouts in 3 years. And in those three years are countless off days where he tried to better himself. This summer he was working with a private speed coach in College Station. The morning camp started he reached his goal and hit 25mph. I told him he was nuts for going in the morning of the first day. He said "Dad, I had to meet my goal".
Then today he calls me.
"Dad, I need you to reach out to financial aid. We have a problem."
"Well crap son what is it now?"
"Dad, they put me on scholarship. I won't need that loan anymore".
The attached photo is one I will frame - of Jimbo offering him the scholarship.
Friends and fellow Ags,
We are in tears.
But I just had to share and brag a little to my Aggie family Ive never known, but love.
Today. My son met his goal.
I thought.
At the end of the conversation, I told him "son, you did it. You met your goal. I'm so proud."
he says
"Dad. We Ain't Done Yet. ha! We will meet our goal on January 10, 2022".
coincidentally, that's my birthday.
Gig Em and God Bless!
And go AZ43!!!
See yall on Saturday. We're the ones wearing the #43 jerseys!
Much Love,
BZ
