what if the sec had 3 divisions?
1. Each division winner gets a playoff spot (expanded to 8 teams?)
2. Get rid of sec championship game, sec champion will be determined by the highest final playoff ranking
3. Rotate 2 teams from each division on regular season schedule
4. Get rid of Vandy (at least for football)
5. Still have 4 non conference games on schedule

Any division with the horns is terrible for us.

That's not really how the SEC rolls. The SEC, unlike the the Big12 doesn't try to blatantly just pump up its best members. Instead, it provides resources so the weaker teams have the opportunity to improve. Look at how Kentucky has grown in the last few years from being a whipping boy to a team with a handful of good draft picks.

Hopefully tu joining doesn't change this. Snakey has me concerned as commissioner but only time will tell.

What if the SEC had SIXTEEN divisions? Mind. Blown.

Division 1
Alabama

Division 2
Arkansas

Division 3
Auburn

Division 4
Florida

Division 5
Georgia

Division 6
Kentucky

Division 7
LSU

Division 8
Mississippi

Division 9
Mississippi State

Division 10
Missouri

Division 11
Oklahoma

Division 12
South Carolina

Division 13
Tennessee

Division 14
Texas

Division 15
Texas A&M

Division 16
Vanderbilt

And to be honest, this is the only scenario I can come up with to make it fair to everyone.

The SEC would do 15 by putting tu and A&M in the same division.

4 divisions and a 2 game playoff. 2 divisions roll to the west and to up to the east. 2 best in West play and 2 best in East play a semifinal matchup then East meets West for the SEC Championship game.

Make the "play-in game" a regular season game. Not an additional game. That's too much wear and tear.

This thread should be reposted on all SEC forums so that the others understand the football iq of what they brought in

What resources do they apply in the above Kentucky scenario? I'm not trying to be a smart a** by any means... just curios...

Let's just do a 15 game round robin.

Sports like football naturally favors multiples of two for a lot of reasons. That's why the pod scenarios are happening because if you go past two divisions you might as well go to four.

The old geezers like playing tu. ($harp and company)

GenX Army hates them with a burning passion. Hell, I'm still pissed they went for the tie in '90

New Army is indifferent, maybe play them, maybe not.

They did not go for the tie in 1990. We scored late to make it 28-27, and RC opted to go for 2 instead of kicking the PAT for the tie. Texas was a top 10 team at the time and if we were even ranked that day, it was in the 20-25 range. Texas had already clinched a Cotton Bowl birth and we were all but locked in to the Holiday Bowl.

By "resources," I guess I just meant money. All SEC schools get an even cut out of the media revenue. In The Big 12 you have tu taking more than 10% of that conference revenue, OU probably takes more too, I know Ok St got some extra in 2019 for having a good year.

Kentucky was making as much off of the media revenue as LSU, which allows them to stock a full staff and improve facilities. Maybe it's not a lot, idk, but a few million goes a long way, and it also shows a lot about the values of the SEC as a healthy family, as opposed to dysfunction in the Big12 where everyone is grasping for every bit they can, at the expense of others.

I could be wrong on this.

You can't get rid of Vandy, they're charter members.

What if the SEC members all played a full schedule of OOC teams (ACC teams) to determine conference strength before picking the sixteen teams to go to the national playoff.

The appeal of the SEC is playing SEC teams, even in a down year playing at Ole Miss or missippi state or Tennessee or any SEC school is better than at Norman or Austin.

Whenever everyone becomes the SEC, then the SEC becomes the NCAA and we will find ourselves back in the SWC "division".
