Count me in the "torn" category on this.
1 - I am happy without them (or am I?).
2 - Being the only Texas school in the SEC is certainly in our favor (or... is it?)
I need some more time to think on this... but hear me out...
Have we simply enjoy gloating over the sips with our entry into the SEC a decade ago? That makes me think about #1. I do miss the nostalgia of the rivalry. IMO, the most storied rivalry in college football (and yes, I would say more than even Michigan / OSU, ND / USCw, and even Bama / Auburn). But what we gained with playing Bama, LSU, and other SEC teams has offset that "enough". So... really... when you stop and think about it, it coming back only makes the overall enjoyment better, since we lose nothing on the SEC side (just likely won't play Bama and Auburn every year).
But then, when it comes to #2, is it really going to damage us not being the only Texas school in the SEC? I've long held the answer was "yes". But look at Jimbo's recent recruiting class. There's a lot outside of Texas. And if the SEC holds true to equality in revenue, keeps the sips ego and propensity to want to dominate conference politics in check, and doesn't allow the LHN, then are we really at a disadvantage to the sips anymore? I'm warming up to the idea we would finally be "equals" in the state.
With the SEC's revenue sharing, can't really see the sips and OU coming in and changing our slice.
Again, not settled on this. But just trying to dispense with beliefs and go on expected future facts. It's not all good or all bad, just unsettled on whether it may actually be a net positive.
