Baylor, TCU - Conference USA?
Tech, Kansas State - Mountain West?
Oklahoma State, West Virginia - The American?
Kansas - Drop football nd join Big East?
Iowa State, West Virginia - Who cares?

Most likely girl to get picked up by a Power Four Conference, ranked in order of preference:

1. Kansas
2. Oklahoma State
3. Texas Tech
4. West Virginia
5. Kansas State
6. Iowa State
7. TCU
8. Baylor

If football is a factor in this decision, Kansas has nothing.

While football competitiveness is important, it is not the only factor. Kansas is one of the elite basketball programs in the nation and will be valued for that. It also is an exceptional academic school. I expect if the B1G chooses to expand, KU would likely be their first choice.

agreed. Kansas has enough history with basketball alone to be a top pick....not sure I'd still put them above OkSt but either one of those would be fitting.

i'd also place baylor a tad higher....7th or 6th on that list just for their recent basketball performances alone. by no means on the same level as kansas from a history standpoint but enough to be ahead of TCU and most likely iowa state.

F Baylor. They go last on every list of mine whether they deserve it or not.

EDIT: And keep in mind they and TCU will be last since they bring the fewest eyeballs to any TV contract. I cannot imagine a world where either one of them merit a Power 5 bid.

Think about it - here are the private schools that are Power 5.

Indy - Notre Dame

ACC - Syracuse
ACC -Duke
ACC - Wake Forest
ACC - Boston College
ACC - Miami

B1G - Northwestern

SEC - Vanderbilt

PAC 12 - USC
PAC 12 - Stanford

Notice a trend. With the exception of the ACC, no one really wants a private school unless they have been there for a long, long time. Ain't no one taking them.

This might be a good time for Kansas to drop football and just join the no-football Big East., like UConn did.
(No, I don't think they will)

There is zero chance any of these teams is picked up by a power 4. If there were any value there they would be part of the SEC deal. Do you really think any P4 can pick through the SEC trash can?

Kansas basketball alone might get KU and KSU an invite to the Big10. Basketball is a big revenue generator, obviously not as big as football though.

Kansas has a shot due to basketball and academics.

the rest are in big trouble.

not sure the AAC and C-USA want to keep adding teams to the "denominator" so to speak.

they only get $10 to $15 MM per team per year to begin with

I imagine a lot of their fans are going to flip flop on the belief that you have to be in a power conference to make the playoffs.

Those 8 schools need to pray that a 20-team AAC Super-Conference (maybe add BYU) can generate enough interest for a television network or incredible streaming deal as it spans 3 time zones, and with 20 teams, it could provide enough content, but that is a tremendous stretch to believe those 8 teams are going to maintain that revenue.

Kansas could join the NAIA and still lose 5 games a year.

I think you will see WV join the ACC along with Notre Dame.

Iowa State should be higher as they are AAU. Conferences like that.

Based on average attendance (2019 season)

1. ISU - 59,794
2. WVU - 55,907
3. OkSU - 54,817
4. Tech - 53,418
5. KSU - 48,818
6. Baylor - 45,517
7. TCU - 42,881
8. Kansas - 33,875

Maybe Kansas really should go UConn's route.

Reminder: This is based on one season, and who knows what impact W-L and quality of opponent had on attendance.

ISU is a top research institute. They have a solid football program and generally highest attendance of that group, and there is no way they are going to the Big Ten (although they fit better than Indiana, Maryland or Rutgers), and I can't imagine any scenario that gets them into a power conference.

Maybe WV to the ACC, but those remaining 6 schools offer about the same as what the current AAC schools offer.
