You need to look beyond next season. That's what Texas is doing. Our problem was not beating Texas on the field - it was beating them in the state legislature, in the conference office, in the officiating, and on the recruiting trail. In the SWC/Big 12, everything was tilted in their favor. Since 2012 everything has tilted in our favor. It will tilt back if tu and OU join the SEC.My Name Is Judge said:

No, it won't. It will return to a regional rivalry game where, in true Aggie fashion, our entire existence becomes focused on "just beating those homos in Austin" and we end up catering to them, just like we did for the first 115 years of our existence. If you honestly think anything - anything - will be different, you aren't all that smart.
We have been out of their shadow and out from under their thumb for 10 years now. And it's taken 10 years for us to really start seeing the results of freedom. That will all be undone in less than 3 years if they end up in our conference. Recruiting will go back to the same - tu and OU will get the lion's share of blue chips from the state, we will get our usual 15% to 20%. We'll win 1 out of every 3 games against tu, because that is our historical lot in life for whatever reason.
I suppose if this goes through, those that long for the old days of being able to talk smack at the water cooler every now and again will be jumping with joy at the expense of our entire athletic program.

You're projecting your belief without addressing concerns much like people of a particular political persuasion who resort to calling their opponents demeaning names rather than engage in a conversation. It enables you to make an argument without arguing.Dilettante said:

What makes us stand out from either tu or OU at the moment is the fact that we are in the SEC and they are not. We play marquee teams almost every week, they have 1 or 2 a year. Our conference has produced something like 9 out of the last 10 or whatever national champions, Clemson being the only one that has been a non SEC champion that i can honestly remember. More draft picks come from SEC teams than anywhere else, etc, etc. etc.
Those two join the conference and we are back to SWC/Big XII days in terms of competition. We no longer have the advantages that we currently hold. We are back to the old mentality of "as long as we beat tu we had a season!" (and yes, that sht will come right back in short order - because that has been in our DNA since 1876 and you simply cannot deny it).
Like it or not, both of those programs have advantages over us. OU has historical relevancy in football, even recently they have been in the playoffs. tu, as much as it sucks to say, has the media love that we have never had and likely never will.
Literally the ONLY time in history we had any semblance of dominance over tu was mid 80's to mid 90's, and that 10 year run got us to a whopping 33% winning percentage against them.
You can flop on the ground all you want that things are different, and they are as long as we aren't paired up with them in conference. But the second that difference goes away...things are going to go back to how they were. You can't change who you are if you are constantly in the same situation.
I want A&M to do what we have been doing the last several years - which is realize we don't need tu and that when we actually focus on making Texas A&M better, it's amazing what we can do. Which is why I have been vehemently against any game renewal against them in any capacity outside of playoffs. We don't need, nor do we want, tht toxicity back. It's taken us a decade to get here, and it will absolutely be undone in short order if we go back to having them involved on a daily basis as conference mates.
Your argument doesn't actually make any sense.schmellba99 said:Sorry you don't like the truth vato, but that is exactly what it is.e=mc2 said:schmellba99 said:

You are dismissing the most important statement, that if tu and OU join the SEC, we lose the single most important distinguishing advantage we currently hold. Why would we ever want to give that up? It's not whiny or weak to fight to maintain an advantage.Off_The_Wood said:Your argument doesn't actually make any sense.schmellba99 said:Sorry you don't like the truth vato, but that is exactly what it is.e=mc2 said:schmellba99 said:

Your conclusion is essentially (paraphrasing, of course) that "things will be as they used to be, because they've always been that way and there is nothing that can be done to change them". But you also state that "we do best when we focus on ourselves, and not worry about Texas".
Does Texas A&M control it's own destiny and have the ability to pursue football prosperity, or are we at the mercy of Texas and Oklahoma ? You seem to be arguing both?
What prevents us from continuing to build on the momentum we've acquired over the last ten years, even if Texas joins us in the SEC? Implying that we can't overcome Texas and their "advantages" is what some posters in this thread - myself included - consider to be a weak and victim mindset.
Ah, so enlightened and superior to those 'political deplorables!' Spending ones' time on such nonsense is a waste!
