If it looks like Baylor Tech and TCU are going to be left behind, I could see one of the Greg Abbott's primary challengers using this as an issue against Abbott. Most of the people who vote in the GOP primary do not like UT and especially hate Austin. Losing the Big 12, especially if Tech and Baylor don't get another Power 5 landing slot could really hurt a lot folks.
