Mickey Washington, late 80's DB. Came in as underrated Fr same year some kid named Darren Lewis was making headlines for us. Out of Beaumont.

Had a nice career in the NFL, is now a lawyer & agent.

Jason Atkinson is one of the more underrated players in my opinion. He helped lead the wrecking crew during the 90's. Coryatt got all the pub and he was a stud but Atkinson made more tackles with little to no acclaim.

He didn't get the acclaim Coryatt did, that's for sure but to say he was underrated isn't accurate in my opinion. He was on magazine covers, etc. back in the day and had his name called a whole lot over the PA system at Kyle.
Maybe I just have a different recollection but I seem to recall him being pretty damn appreciated.

Sticking with 90's linebackers, I'll go with Warrick Holdman. Dude was a stud but overshadowed by Dat.

I guess it is how you determine what underrated means. He did have his name called a lot I agree but probably because he led the team in tackles multiple years. I can't speak to magazine covers because I have never seen them before so you may be correct. I just remember thinking as a kid that he was a heck of a ball player and he didn't get near the pub as many other players on that defense received. I guess we are splitting hairs but I don't think he was drafted either which was a surprise to me at the time.

You want a totally underrated guy from that same era? Yeah Coryatt and Buckley and even Jason Atkinson got the lions share of the attention, but play after play after play you'd hear the PA announcer "making the stop, #38 Reggie Graham". Either that or "#__, ________ and #38, Reggie Graham". Dude was in on every play. Never thought he got enough credit. Another guy from that time period was Derrick Frazier. There's a reason Kevin Smith and Aaron Glenn were making all those plays.......because you couldn't just automatically go to the other side because you had #23 over there waiting on you. He made them a great unit and never got enough credit IMO.

From the 80's......probably Gary Oliver, Dana Batiste and Adam Bob

1980's...Keith Woodside --- made so many huge plays in big games...especially vs. SMU, t.u., and in the Cotton Bowl

1990's...Jason Webster --- many forget he made an All-American team his senior year

2000's...Chad Schroeder --- as rough as the Fran era was...it would have been much rougher without him

2010's...Josh Reynolds --- so many games he bailed out the offense with long completions down the sideline

If we're truly talking underrated (I would guess based on their recruiting profile/expectations coming into the program) - Here are some names from my time as an Aggie football fan:

2000's - Michael Bennett. While on some bad teams the guy became a decade long player in the NFL when many thought he was just a throw in for his brother.

Same goes for Red Bryant. Red was a hell of a player who spent a lot of time in the league and a lot of people just thought he was an addition to help get Jorrie Adams.

Staying on the defensive line, Johnny Jolly was one of the most talented players we had that decade as a low 3 star, and if he could have kept his life together off the field he would have spent a long time in the NFL as well.

2010's - Michael Hodges was a no name transfer who was a tacking machine and the heart and soul of the 2010 defense, guy seriously had no talent and put together one of the best statistical runs a LB has had at this school. He could be a NFL defensive coordinator one day.

Sean Porter and Spencer Neely were guys who were low rated recruits that played key roles on the 2012 team.

Mike Evans is the ultimate underrated recruit who is headed to the NFL Hall of Fame.

Justin Evans and Donovan Wilson are 2 safeties who weren't thought of a lot when we brought them in, but both had awesome careers and made the league.

This is a very good list. I would add Warrick Holdman per the above post. I would also add Gilly. I remember seeing the stats he posted for his NFL pro day and being shocked that his numbers compared favorably to the best RB's from that year. I don't know why I was surprised because he made plays all over the place. I love that he is an Aggie but he is cut out of the mold of those all conference guys that used to kill it at Tech in the 80's and 90's.

Johnny Hector is a good one too.

he had the misfortune of playing during the 1980-1983 stretch of aggie football...which was by and large a forgettable era...except for a t.u. win (1980), an Independence Bowl win (1981), and a win in Lubbock (1981)

2010: I'd say Mike Evans was a slightly more underrated player than Reynolds & has been a record-setting NFL WR. Johnny Manziel set the college football world on fire, which is a lot to say for a 3*.
Cullen Gillaspia should also get some mention going from walk-on to an NFL roster.

80's- Jeff Paine

90's-Rich Coady

Both Paine & Cody went from walk-ons to become all-conference & had brief careers in the NFL

00"- Ryan Tannehill. 3* QB to #7 NFL draft pick. Michael Bennett was a 2 or 3 star & had a solid career here. Oddly enough, he was a better NFL career than one @ A&M once he finally get his priorities figured out. Still is a knucklehead, tho.

Ainias Smith is currently the most underrated.

I read underrated as unsung ability/contribution.
70's - Mike Jay
80's - Rod Bernstein before he moved to TE
90's - Many names because they seemed to play as a team. Adam Bob
