Dustin Long
Noah Allen
Brett Hicks

How the hell did this happen? Many teams would kill for a qb rotation like this...

Anyone know why Allen and Hicks ended up at Sam? Weren't they both highly recruited? In fact Allen was at OU last season if I'm not mistaken...

All three were very good HS qbs.

Brett Hick's dad was my coach in high school and I talked to him about Brett going to Sam Houston. He said that Fran counldn't give him a scholarship because Brett had had a knee injury in HS. That and the fact that Fran expected to run the option more than previous A&M offenses was the basis for Fran not really going after him--it seems Fran thought the knee would be a problem with this new offense.

Rand Hicks--Bretts dad--was very dissapointed his son did not go to a big school. I wish we would have gone after him and taken a chance.

Allen was already buried at OU and with White staying another year and the addition of Bomar it wasn't getting any better.

I read in the Houston paper yesterday about this, it said Dustin and Noah are receiving the majority of the snaps in practices. It also said they have a total of 8 QBs on the roster right now.

That would be a real bummer for Dustin if he were to lose out to Noah Allen and have to back him up.

3XRanger- I believe you are confused on Brett Hicks. He is from 3A Bandera and led them to the state Championship year before last. I don't believe his father is a coach, at least not at Bandera. Unfortunately, as Allen has 3 years left, it looks like Hicks won't get much playing time.

Mike Williamson was Brett's coach at Bandera. He has since retired.

Meanwhile let's say that McGee starts for an injured McNeal and goes down so a 3rd string walk-on marches out to take snaps. With our other schollie QB being a bigtime baseball prospect, this scenerio is a lot closer to reality than anyone associated with Aggie football would want.

I hope Dustin gets some meaningful playing time but with the bind we could be in with his transfer it would be pretty ironic if he rode the bench this year as the 2nd or 3rd stringer at Sam Houston.

Brett Hicks dad is definetly not a coach. Too bad that there is a log jam at QB at Sam bc Brett is one hell of a QB.

I wonder how Daddy Long would feel if ole Dustin was riding the pine at Sam.

Would be tragic if he sat at Sam Houston. Really, he is in the same situation. He should have just stayed at A&M.

Brett's dad was not a coach. His uncle was my coach at Comfort though

Personally I think it would be ironically hilarious if Dustin has to ride the pine at Sam. He took the risk of transfering, he may lose out.

To all of you who say Brett's dad was not a coach. I think you are very wrong. Randy Hicks coached TMI--Texas Military Institute in San Antonio from 1981 to about 1985 as Head Coach. He was undefeated in 1984 with a 10-0-1 record. He is no longer a coach--actually he manages the Mayan Dude Ranch in Bandera. I was there last March to visti Coach Hicks when he told me about the A&M situation.

Unless there is another Hicks QB from Bandera, I think I'm right about this.

By the way Randy Hicks also played at Bandera in the 70's and was an all district player. I think he played receiver.

Hey man I was just asking if it was bs that's what the "?" signifies. Plus I'm just wondering how seriously we were considering him. RC would've played the biggest role in recruiting him.

If that's his family I don't see anyone that looks like a college fb player.

If you're real interested "In The Days of Dustin's Life" and bored I suppose, the Chronicle also said SHSU will be having a 60 play team scrimmage tomorrow.

Just be careful, I hear their practice watching policy is tougher than ours. Only white soled shoes allowed in the stadium, no chewing gum, women present have to be in bikini tops etc.

Actually, Randy Hicks is the 8th person from left to right. His sister BTW played Basketball at Notre Dame. So I think it's safe to say that they are athletically oriented. I believe Brett is pictured here 2nd from left to right--altough I'm not 100% sure.

The bottom line is, Brett is a part of this family and Randy Hicks did coach HS football at one time.

Allen looked really good in the All star game a year or two back. He also put a nice hit on a d-lineman that took a cheap shot at him.

Hope it works out for him at Sam Houston. Unless he regressed at OU, I would say he has the inside track over Long at Sam Houston. But only time will tell.

I don't know what football players look like in your neck of the woods, but Randy Hicks is 6'4" and still in decent shape--he is about 45. Again he is 8th from left to right in the web page you posted. I would guess he could make an ok receiver.

Noah Allen is a *****, I woud hate to see Long get stuck behind that a-hole.

I am still not sure of your story. I know the Hicks family run the Mayan ranch in Bandera, but I am not so sure that Brett's father was a coach in SA.
Also, my recollectoin was that Hicks played the entire season leading his team to the championship.
Where did you hear he had a serious knee injury?
3xranger
How long do you want to ignore this user?
mine is not a story. Randy Hicks did coach at TMI. I played for him for 3 years. It's not like I'm claiming to have known JFK or went on a UFO when I was young or something like that. I was just at the Mayan Ranch last year and Randy Hicks--father of Brett Hicks--told me that Fran had explained to him in very polite terms that A&M could not offer a scholarship to Brett because of a prior injury--not sure what year.

When you say you are not sure Brett's dad was a coach, does that mean you know Rand Hicks? Because if you do know him, all you have to do is ask him about it. or are you just saying that you never heard that he was a coach. Why don't you believe he was a coach after he graduated from college? Rand Hicks was a coach.

Fran apparently told Randy Hicks that he planned on having our QB run more than with previous A&M offenses, and was therefore concerned about Brett's ability to do so in light of a previous injury.

Don't believe me. Look it up before you deny my story. Notice I don't post much and I don't believe in the rumor mill. These are facts.

The guy second from the left looks old! All I'm saying is I don't think A&M wanted him in the first place I'm not saying anything about u not knowing his dad.

Brett Hicks was overrated. He was a tall skinny kid that didn't impress me that much. He did wear a knee brace and was not a very good runner.

The kid needed to pack on about 30-40 pounds coming out of HS. I'm not sure what he's at right now. Someone did a good job of marketing Brett, getting his named tossed about in the recruiting ranks. Bandera winning the state title also helped, but he needed a lot of work to be a college QB. He would have never done anything here, especially with McGee a year behind him. The two faced each other two years ago in high school and McGee was 10X the QB as Hicks.

I thought Sam Houston was a good deal for Hicks. Still could be. He was redshirted last year, while the other freshman QB Wade Pate got playing time. Hicks may turn out to be a decent QB for Sam, but I'd give him at least two more years.

Just found that Hicks tore the ACL, MCL and PCL during the playoffs his junior year of high school for those that were wondering about the knee.

For all those interested in Long and SHSU. No mention of Hicks in the article.

Sounds like he threw a td pass and a pick that would've been a td the other way.

It also sounds like Pate is the number two guy right now, not Allen.

Norhtgater,

Thanks for your information, I looked all over the internet to find info on his injury. I know his dad told me about that injury but I could not prove it here.

I never claimed that Brett was the greatest QB in Texas. And I think that Northgater has a point about someone marketing him well. My feeling is that Brett's dad--Randy Hicks--did a good job of calling-up several coaches to try to get his son looked at--who can blame him? Rand told me he talked to Fran and was told about the new offense and Fran's concern for Brett's injury. Maybe this was Fran just being very polite in saying he was not interested in Brett.

Anyway, I think my previous posts have been proven to be true. Thanks again Northgater.

The knee injury is legit, but that's all I can vouch for in the Brett Hicks story.
