Because this team definitely doesn't:

OSU's playoff resume:
Win over 2-4 Nebraska
Win over 2-5 Penn State
Win over 2-5 Rutgers
(tight) Win over 6-1 Indiana
Win over 2-4 Michigan State

You know it's 2020 when the second best team in the big 10 is Indiana.

Exactly.

If tOSU wants in, then they can arrange a play-in game with the Ags.

Only major conference undefetaed teams "deserve" a spot. Other teams may get a spot in order to have four teams, but none of them "deserve" a spot.

Nobody should come out of pac 12 or big 10. If they wanted in they should have taken off their panties and started season when it was time to start.

Undefeated does not mean undefeated this year; other than Bama and ND, undefeated largely means untested and unchallenged by a team with talent.

Remember the P5 game argument that plagues college football these past few playoff years. Well OSU is going to make the playoff with 5-6 P5 games, how is that fair?

ACC, SEC and B12 are getting the usual or more P5 games this year; 6-8 P5 games was never enough b4, it shouldn'y be now.

I agree. But now that you're going W/L - what's the same breakdown for our schedule this year? South Carolina Arkansas Miss St etc

We have the 6th ranked SOS.

OSU has the 72nd

If OSU played 10 games, they would go 10-0. Does that make you feel better about it?

OSU would get beat by Florida. I feel better about that.

OSU against a full P5 slate almost always drops a game they shouldn't.

Wow

This is what RC should put up on the screen as he recuses himself from voting for the top 4.
Also the Top 8 CFP team records, OSU doesn't compute.

I am all for Ohio State being left out.

Big 10 tried to make 'holier than though' decisions and nearly cancelled the entire season. They later realized what a stupid decision that was.

People all over this country have been negatively impacted by the decisions of leaders and I honestly believe the OSU players/University/Alumni and the Big 10 as a whole should feel serious repercussions for the decision to start so late.

I am tired of COVID having only 2 outcomes...death or not. There are a significantly more "smaller" negative impacts beyond just death and those get swept to the side...

In the committee's eyes:

1. OSU is a perennial power with multiple previous playoff appearances and a CFP title

2. OSU is currently undefeated in an otherwise wacky year.

3. A&M already got beat down by the #1 team in the country and it wasn't close. **this is the big thing standing in our way**

We still have a reasonable chance to get in if ND gets blown out by Clemson, but it's highly unlikely we leapfrog OSU.
wbt5845
How long do you want to ignore this user?
If we wanted to be in the CFP, we should have gone undefeated. No one loss team deserves to be in. Sure, some WILL get in since you need 4, but none deserve to.
TAM85

It is about the 4 best teams, not only for undefeated teams.

Wow
Indiana was ranked 9th at the time and is now ranked 12th, and has since beaten #16 Wisconsin, which augments Ohio State's strength of schedule.

Here's our resume
5-point over 0-8 Vanderbilt
28-point loss to #1 Alabama that was over at halftime.
3-point win over #6 Florida - best thing on the resume, Florida is 8-1 and ranked #6
14-point win over 2-6 Mississippi State
11-point win over 3-6 Arkansas
45-point win over 2-8 South Carolina
13-point win over 3-5 and terrible LSU
11-point win over 5-3 Auburn, ranked 22nd when we played, not ranked now.

So match those two up.
  • We each have a win over a top 10 team.
  • We have an additional win against a team ranked 22nd at the time
  • Their other 4 wins are against teams averaging records of 2 wins and 4.5 losses.
  • Our other 5 wins are against teams averaging records of 2 wins and 6.6 losses
  • We got our asses beat badly in a loss to Alabama.

Based on that comparison, if you think we should go instead of them, is your argument based on our 11-point road win over #22 Auburn completely negates our 28-point loss to #1 Alabama?

I want us to make the playoff, but reverse the names on those resumes and I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be saying 1-loss Ohio State should jump undefeated A&M.

No it isn't. It's about giving every team that deserves a shot at the national championship to have one.

Avg score of an OSU game = 47-23 OSU
Avg score of an A&M game = 31-22 A&M

How impressive you win matters and they are outperforming us 15 points per opponent.
