Are "rub routes" the man-to-man beaters for offense?
If so, did we run much of them vs Lsu?

He's not perfect, but I think he's done a good job of going through progressions, making it to the 2nd or 3rd guy and dumping into the flats to his RB this year. It was one of his biggest weaknesses last year, fueled by his fear of being crunched behind a weak line. But now that he's got reading time behind the line, I think he's doing better about locking onto a receiver. But yeah, Mond anticipating the pick and trying to fit a ball into a rubbed slant last night would've been begging for a pick 6 with that 10 foot target radius he showed off.OutlawAg17 said:
It's called a mesh concept. And yes they do help beat man. However there are two things that would've hindered us last night. The field conditions and our QB play. It's been well documented that Mond locks onto his first read and I don't know if he could make the correct one. Timing and cuts on those routes are pretty hard to do on a wet field.
Here's the problem... to avoid wasted plays, you have to have 2 routes for the receiver: the default comebackfor man coverage, and a cross through the seam in case it's a zone, which isn't hard on the receiver. But, and as a big Mond supporter, I'll say this, I don't know how much I trust Mond to make the right read as consistently as he has to and be on the same page as the WR for this to work. Maybe I'm underestimating him. He's finally looking comfy behind his trusty OL this year but a poor read on a play like that is a guaranteed INT.Hi, Im Brett said:
Almost every CB will have his back turned at some point when you are running a vertical route in man coverage.

LSU's horrible D was not due to bad talent in secondary and inability to cover, it was due to young/inexperienced secondary working as a team. That led to wide open, uncovered receivers in other games.
Unfortunately, we did NOT take advantage of that- running very simplistic straightforward routes- hence no separation from a confused secondary.
I wouild have loved to seen a lot more wheel routes, or TE delays on fake runs, a few short outs coupled with out and ups and general plays that involve misdirection and throwbacks.
I didnt see any creative pass plays- certainly nothing that looked liked it would confuse or fool a young secondary.
Absolutely. Will also tell us much about our wr abilities.Meanmachine said:
We will see how good the LSU secondary is this week against Bama. I have a feeling they are not as good as we made them look.

In man coverages, the defender is locked onto a receiver. Unlike a zone, where the defender has his eyes forward facing the qb. It was disappointing that Mond couldn't create more with his legs since the defense is at a disadvantage playing on wet turf.
ordordordord - have not heard that in a long time!JST92 said:
