A&M has the best TE's in CFB - I fear Mond's lack of accuracy will waste it.
In hind site should have got a transfer last two years - Hurts last season several options this year, the Pirate might prove my point in MS State. QB pioneering is harder than stealing talent.

If Mond over throws the ball past these TEs he has to be benched.

Mond did just fine with Jace.

Parenthetically I think the pirate has a really good chance to fail spectacularly at MSU...here's hoping!

Woodside
Schorp

Campbell

These were the best TE that I can remember.
I hope that our group can live up to those guys.

Counterpoint:

Jace had all-American production in part because a super talented TE is often a guaranteed mismatch; too big to be covered by a nickel CB, too quick for most LBs.

Mond isn't especially accurate, but we also haven't had many receivers who can could separation in the past 2 years. Wydermeyer came on incredibly strong in the second half of the season, and Cupp is going to likely be even more of a weapon.

TE is one position I am not worried about, talent wise

If by Woodside, you mean Rod Bernstein, you may be correct. Bernstein feasted when moved to pass-catching TE.

Of all things to be worried about with Mond, him throwing to a TE is not one of them

Keith Woodside was a running back who often caught passes out of the backfield. He was effective and fun to watch but not a tight end. His teammate, Rod Bernstein, was a converted tight end who was one of our best. Rod should be included in place of Woodside on your list. The others were great and ought to remain. Here's hoping that the current crop can live up to the same.

Only way Mond isn't the starter for the entire season is if he gets hurt and his replacement shows the ability to perform at a higher level in-game.

Don't know if Mond can capitalize. Don't know about his punctuation or grammar, either.

But he sure as hell can't speak very well.

Seemed to hit Ausbon in stride too. He's always had a good connection with him and the TE's. Buckley, and Rogers were different stories.

Where does this stuff come from? Who comes in 2nd in your ranking of best tight end combos in the country?

Serious answer: Iowa State is probably top of the list outright. Both of their TEs have received all-conference honors.

apart from a handful of big catches why are our tightends so great? they were major liabilities in blocking situations last year. it was shocking to see how often they would get whipped or miss a block...

Weidermeir (sic?) looks like a
Matchup nightmare to me. Too fast for lb's and too big for db's. The blocking will come.

If Cupp is similar they are going to be a big problem for opposing defenses.

Because Wydermeyer is pre-season all-conference and he probably shouldn't even be starting. Cupp was the most coveted TE in the country coming out of high school but missed his freshman season.

Cupp may be the next great TE, there is absolutely no way to know that. He played at a small school, he's making a big jump. In the spring game last year, Cupp, looked like a true freshman. I know a spring game tells you nothing, but you can judge a bit. He's clearly way behind Wydermeyer, that's not even arguable.

Since Mond cant throw the deep ball to wide open receivers, the defense can smother short to medium routes.

Best TE's ever?

That is so Texags.

We have a guy who had a good freshman year and a guy coming in who has never played a down and was seriously hurt. If this is the best TE group ever we must have had a long history of crappy TEs.

Roger's would have to be 7ft to catch Mond throws and Mond missing a wide open Buckley against Clemson was bad..He connects with TE & Ausbon because routes are less than 10yards...lol

Just to add...

Combined career catches for the "best ever te combo" = 32
Combined career yards for the "best ever te combo" = 447
Combined career TDs for the "best ever te combo" = 6
Combined career starts for the "best ever te combo" = 11

Rod Bernstein in 1986 65 catches, 710 yards, 5 tds
Jace Steinberger in 2018 48 for 832 and 10
Martellus Bennett career - 105 for 1246 and 10

They may both end up great, but I don't think they quite wear the crown yet.

And to answer you question... Mond will miss them running wide open at least 20 times this season.
