Why do we keep lowering the boom instead of wrapping up? Serious question. Is this a modern football technique? I honestly don't know. I am just curious as to how these guys are being taught.

They seem like they are scared to tackle.....they just wanna knock down everyone.

Technique is the answer. Along with wanting to bounce off instead of going to the ground tangled, which can lead to other issues.

Let this day go down in history as the first day that the refs overturned two targeting calls against Texas A&M. The Lord is smiling on Aggieland today!

The O'Neal hit is exactly what you should do. Try to knock the ball loose. A foot lower and that was a beautiful hit.

The second one was bad tackling.

Is not a scrambling QB, past the line of scrimmage, essentially a running back? If so, why would the rules be different? Obtuse in Katy.

I didn't see a problem...and neither did the refs. They both led with shoulder; EVEN turning so their shoulder hit first. 2nd one looked bad because the QB lowered his head; on replay the defender never changed the angle of his attack.

Came to post something similar. Normally we would
Have both safeties out for next week due to targeting. And the results would have given S.C. two touchdowns. Times are changing.

The QB isn't defenseless unless he has just thrown the ball or after an interception is thrown. However, if he is hit with the crown of the helmet, just like any other runner, that could be targeting. A QB (and runner) is also exempt from a horse collar tackle foul while in the pocket.
