Gameday Dismount Zone

We're trying to identify a logical area where we can ask folks on bikes, skateboards, pedicabs, etc to walk their rides during the time of gamedays when we have many peds in the area. We'd like to have a space that in some ways enforces itself because it is the logical area, and one that doesn't require a lot of staff to create - because we have many people already working on several tasks.

Have y'all noticed the black and yellow signs? (On Stallings, Joe Routt, Houston and the Rudder Fountain area).
There is also an Aggie Park dismount zone with black and white signs.

Do these seem like the right areas?
Have you seen or felt any change to these areas?
Any suggestions for improving - reducing the area or expanding? Changing hours?
We'll be working on this over the off-season and we'd like to get some input.

I wish you the best of luck, because bicyclists, skateboarders and mopeds don't pay any attention to signs and traffic on the best of days.

For most it's in the bedroom.

I assume this effort is for the purpose reducing injuries? If so, how many injuries are currently being caused by these activities on game days and is that a greater rate than what's happening on other days?

If you don't have these statistics, then how do you know you're not trying to find a solution to a problem that doesn't exist?

If you do have these statistics, then present them, because that information would be useful in developing an appropriate, effective and measurable solution.

How about the family on the motorized ice chests? I saw them hauling butt thru the crowd twice.

I thought PEDs were banned on gameday?

Several separate problems starting with easier to solve portion of the problem

There is no solution for traffic coming from the areas North of the Chicken Or the neighborhood South of Southgate Strip center without looping them to the East.

1). everything mentioned except pedicabs coming from the North South or East should dismount at Evans Library. The Garage is a dead end and there is a large plaza area Making that the end of the line makes sense. If you are healthy enough to ride a bike you are healthy enough to walk from Evans to Kyle

2)pedicabs exist because old , unhealthy, and lazy people need/want to get close to the stadium the closest coming from the East North or South the NE corner on the Traffic circle of the MSC is probably as close as pedicabs should be allowed.

Coming from the West dismount zone at the plaza just east of the Soccer fields,
Pedicabs possibly give them a lane 12 feet wide in the tunnel that is pedicabs only but closes 90 minutes before kick off. Within 90 minutes of kick it becomes Pedestrians only
All of this is just of the top of my head and likely some of these ideas are non Starters for reasons I am unaware of

Good point. Doesn't seem like a problem to me right now. Instead of zones, I think it's appropriate to dismount when it gets too CROWDED instead of a particular location. Just about everyone already does that since most can't track-stand and it's easier to walk your bike in a crowd. I thought the sign I saw this week accomplished nothing except impeding the flow of pedestrian traffic.

Where is this Aggie Park you speak of? I know a Spence Park, an Aggie Park?

Seriously, maybe there is a problem, but I haven't seen it. Riders on Houston St seem to be aware of people walking and running so I'm not sure what the issue is ...?

I'm puzzled. I know you arent saying I should wait until the near-hits I've seen, and many others have complained about, turn into hits. Since we have very few to no pedicabs on regular days, I can say its more hazardous on gamedays. I love performance measurement but I havent figured out how to measure ped exposure in a sustainable way. So what should I do?

I know that there are many skaters, pedicabs and cyclists who ride with ped safety in mind. But there are a few careless ones, and I'd like to help set their expectations. And give them some areas to ride around if they choose to ride.

Doesnt that make sense?

Hahahaha
The regulators I'm looking for are "common sense" "reasonable" "safety" and "understanable". More like the 4 horsemen - dang, there's another riding metaphor.
