We'll know when he gets his own recruits & system firmly in place. But, to answer your question - yes.

I do. I don't pay his salary.
The question is really this, who is a better coach, Sumlin or Jimbo?
Jimbo all day long.

I asked this in another thread but do you think Jimbo wins 75 games at A&M? He's 53 I know he has a 10 year contract but I would guess it's 50/50 at best that he stays for ten years either his doing or the schools.

No coach is ever worth more than 500K a year with anything guaranteed.

He is as good as we are ever going to be able to lure away. So at the end of these 10 years, i can either be happy that we won a National championship, or resigned to the thought that we are just forever mediocre. In any case, I'm still thrilled for that reason.

Why $500k? Why not $550k?

Very silly position you take

This.

He isn't the guaranteed fix like so many like to think (he excelled with a Heisman winner much like Sumlin did, then spit out good but not great seasons playing in a lackluster conference), but he is the best available proven winner we could have snagged.

The only other option was to go up-and-coming again and I think we've got a large (older) portion of our fanbase that feels like if they don't see it in their next 10 years then it doesn't matter...

We win yesterday's game if Jimbo doesn't call a single pass play in the 4th quarter.

This game was very UCLA/Sumlinesque in it's stupidity by the coaching staff.

We are all disappointed in yesterday's results but it's crazy to give up on any coach in year 1.

Jimbo is changing the culture and building a different program. Give him a few years to get his players into his system and judge him in year 3.

What you will see if a different trajectory than the previous staff which hit pay dirt in year 1 inheriting Manziel, Evans, and a NFL caliber Oline but trailed off every year after.

So you wouldn't give Saban $600k a year guaranteed to come here?

Yes, and I say that because we currently do not have an SEC caliber OL WRs or DBs. The players we currently have in those positions are from the KS era.

In the 4th quarter, we could have had Tom Brady at QB and we still would have been in trouble. No separation from the WRs, an OL which cannot protect anyone (evidence is the last play of the game 5 on 3 and they still get to the QB), and the DBs have been problematic all season ... heck they have been that way since Fran was here.

Fix those positions and we have a successful program, and Coach Fisher is a successful coach.

Perhaps I misunderstood, but I believe what he is saying is that this is all just a hobby or diversion from everyday life, and to buy into the notion that money spent guarantees exceptional results, has been proven untrue.

If we had a QB that could complete a forward pass, we'd win the last 2. Jimbo can't make the plays too.

Defense is much improved, recruiting has improved, physicality has improved. Once Jimbo gets a good QB and not Sumlin scrubs, his teams will do way better.

DBs are awful, he's recruited the best DB class in the nation. He needs time to fix all the holes Sumlin and chief left him.

Sip troll?

It was a great move to get rid of Sumlin and even greater that we were able to snag one of 3 active NC winning, elite level coaches. Unless you're just a hater, there is no reason to believe that hiring Jimbo wasn't a great move.

Best coach we could have possibly taken and is at least deserving of some respectful patience for him to get his own players and culture firmly established. I'm also very grateful for the BMA's that actually put up the cash to hire Jimbo. All I need to do is be reasonably patient.

True, but Jimbo DOES determine who throws the passes. That is his blind spot.

None.

So we should have hired someone crappy for less? What point do you think you made?

Or maybe you thinking you know better is yours.

I'm not sure yet if it was a good hire or not for the long term. Much better than Sumlin in the short term and he deserves some time before the super potato couch coaches start flapping their mouths.

I laughed when I would see old timers rant about "5 million for this performance" when referencing Sumlin. Guess what? Most SEC coaches make at least $5 million. They are all way overpaid and is a sad indictment of our society. Forty years ago, the coaches salaries were a lot closer to good engineer or manager salaries and the coaches actually lived in middle to upper middle class neighborhoods instead of palatial estates.

I actually think Sumlin is a decent coach and last year was a rebuild year with all the freshmen playing. We have some real talent deficiencies. Now, you can say that is Sumlin's fault and fair enough, but I think it is more of a problem of overrated 4 star Texas athletes. I'm just hoping that Fisher is a better talent evaluator and we get out of this rut. I'm just pissed that we lost yesterday. I figured we would at least split the Miss State and Auburn games. There is no reason why we should have lost yesterday to a team that is possibly more dysfunctional than we are.

Dude, you posted this same crap in the "Kevin Sumlin = Jimbo Fisher" thread.

I'll post the same reply.

"Every year sans 2012 was a rebuild year for Summy." And, Jimbo > Sumlin. Who's got hardware and who talks about it?
