I keep hearing about coaches we arent going to get; Richt, Saban, Meyer, Kelly. Also a lot of talk about another up and comer; Morris, Campbell, Norvell. Haven't heard any talk about Gary Kubiak. Seems like an excellent choice to me. I'm sure he wants back into a HC position. Great offensive resume. As long as he doesnt make Sherman's mistake in S&C. Thoughts?

You've got to have a certain kind of hunger, enthusiasm or passion to try and convince an 18 year old to play for you.

Somewhere around the age of 55 you begin the phase of life where you stop giving a crud what an 18 year old does if he doesn't listen IMMEDIATELY.

Life wears on you from what I hear.

I'm still MOTIVATED though. Blue Star for me.

Would be my first call. Dude can run an offense. I think his scheme would be great fit for the Texas O linemen now a days along with being SEC style. He brings instant cred to recruiting.

I'm 44 and I've long since stopped giving a crud what an 18 year old thinks.

I'm starting to wonder if there are trolls on this board that bring his name up every 2-3 days to piss people off... It's annoying and frustrating. I wish there was a function that deleted any thread with Kubiak's name as a coach for us because it's NOT HAPPENING.

Several of us on this board went to high school with his son. He is done coaching. He is spending time with his family. If he ever came back to coaching it would be at the high school level as a "giving back to the community" type of thing and even that is doubtful. Health and family are what he wants to spend time on.

Please put this subject to bed!

If Kubiak was ever going to be the head coach here, it would have happened already. It's not happening, so give it up.

Has to be. I'm tempted to dig up and copy & paste my standard Kubiak response whenever it comes up.

I think as a super bowl winning HC with connections all over the league Kubiak would find recruiting much more enjoyable now.

20 years ago he was a career backup who unless you follow St Pius or the ags you probably had never seen play a snap. Kubiak immediately would have his pick of 5*qb's and would be able to get OL talent on par with what Sleepy Sherman brought in.

A&M needs better talent to win in the SEC west and I think signing nfl caliber OL is the route to take. Every year there are a dozen or so almost cant miss nfl OL prospects coming out of high school Kubiak is more likely to bring in those guys than anybody else on thecurrent HC wish list.
If he brings in 1 or two of those guys a year. in 4 years we are beating bama because our OL has as many Future nfl players as Sabans DL

Kubiak is in his late 50's he maybe 60 so he is not too old to coach another 5-10 years

it is likely Kubiak has already said no
still he would be the first guy id call
Kubiak imo is no more unlikely than Patterson, Richt, Franklin and a few other names that keeping get brought up

Kubiak is a pretty cool guy. I knew him for a short period when our sons went to the same high school. He would come to mist game and stay for the first half. Very personable, calm and just a great guy. Easy to talk to. He also cane spoke at a few sports ceremonies.

IF there was any formal talk for him to and was he interested I would be excited.

It's been known since he left in '94 that his heart was in the NFL and he had no real interest in coaching college. I always heard that he hated recruiting. I don't know why people try to insist, 23 years later, that he just makes perfect sense.

Any current college football coach you name is a more realistic possibility than Kubiak.

I've seen him at his sons' high school games way back in the day, I'm sure he's a great guy. But he ain't coming back to coach.

FWIW I have seen Kubiak around town about a dozen times this year. Don't know what if anything that means but he sure has been around a lot recently.

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/former-broncos-head-coach-gary-kubiak-open-to-a-return-as-an-offensive-coordinator/

Quote:

Former Super Bowl-winning coach Gary Kubiak retired from the sidelines after the 2016 season due to mounting health concerns, but several sources close to him believe the esteemed coach will consider running an NFL offense in 2018 if the right opportunity arose. Several of Kubiak's coaching assistants believe a return is hardly out of the question, and, given the dearth of coordinator candidates around the league, he would surely be in demand.
Once again, he's an NFL guy.

Let's see...

Devote your time and expertise to the thing you (probably) most enjoy and have immediate credibility doing, and *only* that thing?

Or commit to the 24/7 ego-soothing, back-rubbing and hand-shaking of fragile little psyches for your alma mater, who is desperate for love and attention and success? Oh and recruiting.

Tough call.

GK is one of those guys that should be on our off-the-field staff. "Special Offensive Advisor" a la Kiffin/Sark/etc. Work from his home unless he wants to come in.

But the current HC doesn't want anybody questioning his good buddy and his stupid WalMart offense and play calling.

There's a few guys that should probably be around like GK. Football nerds that love it.

I, too, have read that he doesn't care for recruiting.

Maybe I'm just repeating misinformation but I sure as hell couldn't stomach that aspect... I imagine you have to bury a part of your soul as well as pride to be really good at it.

This thread is stupid. Kubiak loves TAMU, but he isn't going to coach anymore. He doesn't need to, and he has nothing left to prove. He's going to enjoy life from here on out.

He's told the media he would come back to be an OC for "the right opportunity." Read an article. I assume this to mean NFL OC. While i don't think he wants the pressure cooker of a premier P5 HC, i don't think we've seen the end of Kubiak on the sideline.

I can't imagine Kubiak as a college OC, but the very idea of him replacing mazzone gives me impure thoughts

Using Sumlin scontract as an example when he signed it there was $25 million guaranteed money
I doubt GK could get that kind of guaranteed money in the nfl

He's won a Super Bowl. He can walk into any house in the country and ask momma, "How many of those has Saban won?" Kid would be on the bus to CS the next day.

Such a crack up when people pick an outlier as the norm.

Saban and Snyder are not typical. Spurrier and Stoops are. They just got to a point where physically or emotionally it wasn't worth it.

Which is exactly why you can't underestimate the importance of hiring a coach who has something to prove.
