Is it because there are not enough viewers for that game on a Saturday afternoon?
None of these two are top ranked and by their performance so far, they don't deserve prime time tv.

1) A couple weeks ago the Thursday night game was Boise State vs New Mexico. Not exactly a powerhouse game. Maybe this TV slot was deemphasized for the year.

2) these schedules are put together before the season, so has nothing to do with "their performance so far"

3) the score of this game isn't even on ESPN college football's home page right now. However, Kellen Mond is. So, don't necessarily buy into the idea that they're over promoting a certain team

becauae teams like Iowa state never have prime time games at home any other time and want it.

Hope that helps

LOL, I was channel surfing and thought I had come across more lhn garbage and went right by it. Second thought, it was garbage so I did myself a favor..

Well it could be the lhn bumped this game from its normal Saturday slot so they could show something more interesting Saturday. Maybe a "where are they now" piece on Cote and Vince..............

I also thought a Thursday night game was odd. High school football is usually played on Fridays.

The same reason USC and Wash St is on Friday night: a national prime time spot.

Thursday night is not a "national prime time spot". Hence, the reason the NFL goes up against it.

Umm...the Thursday night game is a filler game. You don't usually get top 25 match ups.

Doesn't every P5 conference have a Thur night matchup?

What about Friday night games, such as USC and Wash St tonight?

Are you saying the game last night was shown just regionally and not at 7:00 CST. When does prime time start for you?

What was the score of the SEC game last night. I'll wait.

7pm CT on national TV is the definition of national prime time, and even moreso on Thursday---a very popular night of the week. hence the reason the NFL plays then.

And why when CBS isn't showing the NFL, they'll move their top show back to Thursday night.

And if the NFL didn't play on Thursday night you'd see 10 college games on TV every Thursday like we had in Week 1. Just like if the NFL didn't play on Sunday or Monday, you would see college games continued to be played those days like A&M did in week 1.***

***As far as the NFL, they can schedule games whenever the hell they want to. They're the dominant TV product in the United States this side of the M.A.S.H. and Seinfeld finales.

FWIW, Arkansas played on Thursday Week 1 and Ole Miss will play Mississippi State on Thanksgiving Thursday.

You're comparing Arkansas' game against New Mexico State and Thanksgiving tradition game to a conference game on a random Thursday night? Really?
TXAggie2011
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Playing the Egg Bowl on Thanksgiving is only a "tradition" in a loose sense of that word.

But yes, I am comparing a conference game played on Thanksgiving once in 15 years to a Thursday night against the NFL to a conference game on a Thursday night against an NFL game.

But if you insist on non-Thanksgiving SEC conference games on a Thursday:

2016: Vanderbilt v South Carolina (week 1)
2015: Auburn at Kentucky (week 7) and Mississippi State v Missouri (week 10).
2014: Texas A&M at South Carolina (week 1).
2013: Ole Miss at Vanderbilt (week 1); Kentucky at Mississippi State (week 9);

Because Thursday night is Junior High football night. Watching that game was like watching two 5 year old kids box with those over sized pillow looking boxing gloves.

Wonder what the ratings were compared to Packers-Bears and the finale of the Ken Burns Vietnam series.

I was watching Vietnam and completely forgot the sips were on until I checked the Zoo today.

It will have been blown away by the NFL. Don't know what viewership of the Vietnam series has been.

It will be most interesting to me to see how it compares to Oklahoma-Iowa State played last year on a Thursday. That game had 1.4 million viewers competing with UCLA-Colorado.

Temple at South Florida and New Mexico at Boise, the past two Thursdays' ESPN game...each had 1 million viewers.

Looking ahead to next week, Louisville at NC State will be a good benchmark.
