7 years ago, on 9/18/2010, the Fightin' Texas Aggies were down 20-6 in the third quarter after ending 4 consecutive drives with an interception against Florida International. After that 4th pick, the 12th Man erupted! Not in displeasure with the players or coaches, but in support of them. The defense held, and Jerrod Johnson got it together to lead his team to 3 TD's in the 4th quarter to win 27-20.

This was the same year the Texas Aggies started 3-3 with 3 consecutive losses to OkSt, Ark, and Tech; but they never quit. They would go on to be the only Big XII team ever to beat OU, Nebraska, and tu in the same season to earn a trip to the Cotton Bowl and finish 9-4.

This day 7 years ago has brought me back to where we are today as a fan base. We watched our team blow the 2nd biggest lead in major college football. We watched them struggle at times against 2 Southern Louisiana schools not named LSU. Now, when they need support, we have all but abandoned them. We complain about a lack of coaching and effort, but what matters is those 11 college students on the field and their teammates on the sideline. We have to come together as we did in 2010, believe in the team, and stand strong as the 12th Man. On message boards and in our conversations around work and friends, support our team. Show the world that this Spirit cannot be broken by a few bad plays and some poor coaching decisions. We are stronger than this. We are the 12th Man.

From here on, I am not halfheartedly and apologetically wearing my Aggie polo on Fridays. I am supporting my alma mater with pride because we are bigger than a football game, we are bigger than a coaching staff, we are a network of men and women prepared to lead our school, our state, our country through values rooted in College Station.

TLDR; Never give up on the players. We are the 12th Man; we can make a difference; they deserve better.

I've never given up on the players. I think they deserve much better coaching than they are getting.

The kids always deserve our support. Always. They are out there playing for fun. They aren't getting paid.

On that we agree

The coaches are getting paid to do a job. They are open to criticism and it's being fairly given on this board.

The stands aren't empty. There's no booing fromthe stands ( that I've heard and if there is it should stop)

Imo the fans are totally supporting the players. They just aren't supporting the coaches. I think that's fair

I have been to a lot of games and I still remember that game well because of the incredible crowd support that day. It was if the crowd decided that "we are not losing to FIU."

Interesting note, TY Hilton (colts WR) played for FIU. Had 3 catches for 47 yards.

It's actually Post Traumatic Sumlin Disorder.

A condition resulting from chronic early season success followed by collapse.

The condition manifests in three stages. Anger. Hallucinations. Then- a euphoric acceptance of getting one's a** kicked reieatedly.

We didn't lose to tech, in fact that is when it all started to come together after Sherman had been working his a$$ off for 2 1/2 years rebuilding the disaster of a program and roster he inherited from Fran.

That offense was much better than the Sherman / Mazzone offense, as we had a power run game but also would go HUNH and 4 wide.

And no, the same thing cannot happen this season, as comparatively the 2010 team was not playing so many true fish and underclassment and.......

Sherman >>>>>>>>>>>> Sumlin as an evaluator and developer of talent.

I'm not sure the crowd could "will" the team to a win anymore. The pre-scheduled, in-stadium choreography and entertainment would disrupt/distract the crowd and it would be too hard to carry the energy over from play to play. I just shake my head at our gameday experience. They have taken the best gameday atmosphere in the country and made it cheap and tacky.

I was at that game. It truly was a great moment for the 12th man.

Sad that we were in a position to have to "will a win" against FIU.

No they didn't. They erupted because defense started holding (I know because I was in the cheap bleacher seats yelling my ass off) and the offense started to score. THEN it got loud as s***.

Nope. One if the FI players took a cheap shot that should have gotten them tossed out of the game. 12th man went nuts after that.

In all seriousness the thing that I have a hard time with is the current school administration and how they are shifting the ideology of what it means to be a Texas Aggie. That's what I always used to hang my hat on when deep down I knew that football was secondary.

I was at that FIU game and I recall the former student side passing a hat for Sherman's buyout and the Student side climbing the stairs to the top of the third deck to for a collective jump in the event we didn't stop them on fourth down to save the game

I was at that game and remember it somewhat differently. The 12th Man definitely erupted, but it was absolutely in displeasure. We were pissed off that we were losing to FFIU, of all schools.

The crescendo was more of an "alright, THAT'S ENOUGH," as opposed to "come on guys, you can do it!" So sure, it was partly in support, but it was mostly "get your **** together, Ags!" kind of support.

Just my 2 cents.

Absolutely correct. It was in the northwest corner of the north end zone. The Zone came alive at the no-call and the rest followed. Easily the most dramatic change in stadium atmosphere I've ever seen.

The coaches are part of the team, a huge part. When you bash the coaches you bash the team. I guess if in your business you are supportive of everyone, but bash the owner or your boss to your colleagues you'd be considered a good supportive employee? Same goes here...
Too many fair weather fans that can't comprehend how challenging it is for a team (Coach) to win week to week or year to year. Ask Les Miles. Top name for years, could have had the Michigan job, Now unemployed. Rich but unemployed. Kids are leaving for the NFL early, parity across teams has never been like it is today. Yes there are a handful of teams that have had great runs in recent years...however there are about 100-110 other teams that haven't. We are close with the young talent we have on this team

No, his head went back and to the left. Back, and to the LEFT. No way that shot comes from the repository.

I remember being at the FIU game. Not happy with how we played, but we were all relieved that we got the win despite the poor play. I was happy that I wouldn't have to come home to a Texags meltdown.

Just one other correction, the third straight loss was to Mizzou not Tech. After that, supposedly Sherman literally burned the playbook at practice as a gesture that we were gonna make some changes, and we turned things around and ended the season as arguably the best team in the Big 12 (no match for LSU in the bowl though).

I am inspired and ready to do my part. Even though our football team sucks we should continue to wear Texas A&M stuff on Fridays to help our team win on the gridiron on Saturdays, and sometimes on Sundays.

We are the 12th Man! Gig 'em, Aggies!!!
