QB for 2017?

Now that Knight will be graduating, who will or should be the starter for next year? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Hubenak has one more year. I've never liked him in our backfield though. He may have knowledge but he doesn't seem to possess that killer instinct to win games. I'm hopeful for Starkel, but we also have Mond and Blumrick coming in, and we desperately need a QB that can provide some sort of long-term stability for the program. We're about to reload a stellar receiving corps, we have an emerging star in Williams at RB, and we have Coach Turner beginning his process on rebuilding our line. All we need (on offense) in my opinion is a steady, healthy, consistent quarterback.

None of our QB's have a killer instinct. QB is irrelevant because our coach isn't a leader.

Hell, we lost 6 games in 2 seasons with Johnny Football. That's crazy.

Hubes is back. Accurate, can't run, knows offense, makes good decisions, average arm strength.
Starkel needs to gain weight. Can't run out of sight in a week but has elite arm!
Mond- too young and not ready.

We need a bad azz dual threat transfer.

I hear Kyler's available. We're gonna be average again next season regardless of QB, so might as well see what Starkel/Mond bring to the table. Mond's obviously the future.

That is a good way to ruin a Qb. Throw them in against the sec west before they are ready. But we have done it before..

Good thing we passed on Stidham. Sumlin is such an egotistical buffoon.

To bad Sumlin turned in Kyle Allen! He would be a very seasoned QB by now.

Kyler had to go!

What was so great about Kyle Allen? Remove all off the field issues (and there were plenty) Allen had over a year and a half as a starter here and wasn't better than Trevor Knight this season. Which is fine, except that Allen was the top pocket qb in the country coming out of high school. He was never going to be as good as everyone wanted him to be

Does it really matter who the QB is next year? 8 wins is our ceiling. Not even worth debating. But I'll be ironic and say Starkel is your guy next year but only if we add a TE to our scheme.

I bet he plays Mond, maybe not week one, but if the kid lives up to his 5* ranking, I don't see why we wouldn't play him.

Giving away Stidham and Martell for Mond to sit on bench?

Hubes moved the ball well against Ole Miss until we went into a shell of nothing but screen passes (I hate our offensive philosophy). He doesn't have the arm strength but he's a solid starter. If we didn't have a coach who's fighting for his career next year, we should play hubenak, take what we can get and groom for the future. Instead we'll probably risk one of our freshman.

Mond looks pretty damn impressive in the UA practice. I know it's practice but he has great poise and seems WAY more mature than I was at that age. Our offense is so basic, I doubt it would be an issue for him to pick it up. I think we will all be suprised at just how poor Knight was at running the O.

False. He started a grand total of 14 total games split between 2 seasons. 5 starts in his FR season amidst terrible drama with Kenny Hill and the entire team, plus 9 starts his SOPH season broken up between his arm injury and the last 2 games of the season.

Hardly a large and stable enough sample size to draw the conclusion that "he was never going to be as good as everyone wanted him to be".

If handled correctly, Kyler leaves and he stays and he is a 2nd year starter with more talent on Offense than the year prior. I think he would have excelled mightily in Mazzone's system despite people's notion that he couldn't have run the zone read like Trevor. True. He couldn't have done it exactly the same way or with the same effectiveness, but the kid had great pocket presence and footwork and could scramble well enough. He would have made up for his lacking in the running game with 10 more % points of completion %.

Then imagine him coming back next year for his SR season as a full 3rd year starter with 27 games under his belt and combined with Kirk, Merritt, Ausbon, Ford and Williams to play with in the OC's 2nd full season?
