How many yards did Guice get after contact?

Our tackling was worst I have ever seen it. The box was stacked and A) we got manhandled B) we couldn't tackle Hubenak in a phone booth. What more do you want from Chavis? Our guys just don't have the skill or fire needed to compete with the big boys.

We obviously got pummeled, but the bigger picture is personnel. We just don't have it on D and ultimately I attribute that to Sumlin.

all the coaches share the blame for not getting the players here. Why isnt chavis getting some players too

I guess I was mistaken in thinking it was the responsibility of the Defensive Coordinator to have the players prepped and ready to play.

Our mistake for not recruiting players who can develop basic fundamentals by themselves without the need for any outside help or guidance.

I am a die hard Chief fan, but this is more than just a personnel issue.

The lack of fundamentals in the last 5 games is on Chief.

Tackling, angles and position are all things you teach. All of those things are missing.

Honestly, the entire team is not fundamentally sound. Offense, defense, special teams, the whole deal is out of whack.

Sumlin bears the ultimate responsibility for all of these issues.

Then Chavis should gut his assistant DCs and hire his own staff.

They usually had one tackler that could bring our ball carrier down. We had two or three guys on Guice and we still had issues.

Staff hires are usually done by the HC

The 54 points LSU's offense put up tonight was the most Chavis had allowed since he left Baton Rouge for College Station.

Constant over pursuit and being out of position. Everyone trying to be a hero instead of just doing their job and it's the same EVERY week. No improvement and the same mistakes.

Good point. Chavis needs to fire whichever position coach is failing to teach the LBs to tackle.

A DC does not have staff hire and fire ability. That rests with the HC.

For me, the time is now for Sumlin to hold Chief accountable and stop giving him a free pass for the terrible state of our defense.

Looks like Watts was the most important player on our D. And even his tackling skills went down this year.

Is it me or does almost everyone who is not a DL have little twig arms. I looked at the LSU defenders and even their FR look like they are built to play in the NFL. Our guys, not so much.

the scary thing (as we've discussed plenty this year)...

Alaka was a 4-star recruit. So was Richard Moore. But both did not appear to belong on the field tonight vs. LSU's o-linemen and RB. Woefully slow and/or undersized

Perhaps but from what I hear Chavis is not real big on hitting the recruiting trail. If that is true then he shoulders a lot of the blame IMO. Chavis seems like a good guy but I wonder if he like others on this staff have lost their passion and are now just showing up hoping to do ok and collect their paycheck.

For me I am ready to turn the page on the Sumlin era and look to the future because I have seen enough of his past to know we are not heading in a positive direction.

Does anyone play good defense anymore.

Stop beating around the bush, Chavis should be gone with everybody else...LSU let him go for a reason....whoever gets Hermann, gets LSU's current D- coordinator....that should be incentive enough. Young guys ready to win.

The few actual linebackers that are bread in Texas HS football usually bolt for Bama, LSU, or end up at tu. We haven't landed a true, proven SEC quality LB from Texas since Sumlin has been here. Moore has great instincts and is a pretty good tackler, but he's 210 lbs ... maybe. Alaka was a stud TE who happened to play LB in a district that did not exactly play smash mouth football. Until we start landing some of these stud Texas LBs, we're going to struggle, because we clearly aren't developing talent.

The two best LBs last night were Thomas and Dodson. We'll see if they continue to progress.
