With what we're losing to draft/graduation and the way next years schedule shakes out Sumlin could field a better team and still not get to 8 wins. And then he's gone. Would be a great opportunity for new guy to get 5-6 wins instead of wasting the following year in 2018.

He's got us in the mix for a top ten recruiting class. Would you like that to go away too?

You get the talent he recruits, then if need be you make an UPGRADE at coach next year. You don't just throw everything away when you haven't even put feelers out to prospective coaches unless you want to end up with a coach that will net you 6-6 seasons instead of 8-5 or 9-4 seasons.

We have top 3 facilities and play in the best conference in the country. We are near Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and Austin. A top 10-15 recruiting class just isn't that impressive. In fact, if a coach can't pull them in, he probably won't survive because all our division rivals are recruiting at that level.

Sumlin needs a top 5 class to make up for his inability to coach at a very basic level.

Nobody here denies that Sumlin recruits at least moderately well. We will be in this position every year with him. At some point you have to cut bait and sacrifice some recruits to get a competent head coach.

But I assure you that by signing day we will not have a top 10 recruiting class. Sumlin can't close on highly ranked guys at need positions Once the blue chip programs fill out their classes, we're looking at a 15ish class just like last year. He needs to go.

Sumlin could get a top 5 class only to lose 1/4 to transfers, 1/4 to off the field discipline issues, and see the other half not pan out due to lack of development.

In the mix? Come back when he actually gets one.

Recruiting class means nothing in terms of ranking if you consistently recruit the wrong personnel. For years we've had "high/mediocre" rankings however look into and see how many receivers we've picked up and what they're stars are compared to the other positions. We need o line, db's, and lb's not 4-5 star wide outs every year.

I'll take a guy who recruits the right talent and can develop, over a guy who picks up flash at the wrong positions needed to hide his development flaws.

One big mistake everyone makes about Sumlin is that he's a great recruiter . Well he's not. He's a poor judge of talent and even worse coach of players once they are here. The qb fiasco from last year is unforgivable. He is not liked by lots of recruits that's why he can't close them. That aggswag thing he initially got away with is long gone. He's an overrated bad coach who is getting 5 million a year to prove it.
