quote:
An email from Sydni Lee '05 from Corpus Christi represents the kind of spirit that helps us all push through the hard times and keep our focus on what this last game stands for. She and a group of friends and schoolmates are reviving something they call the Torch Run that started in 1970. The residents of Walton Hall used to run a torch from Memorial Stadium in Austin to Kyle Field, she says, and it was used to light Bonfire. This group wanted the team to know "we support them 100 percent and this Torch Run is for them...." They'll run on Thanksgiving Day and return in time for Yell Practice

Ok who where has been on a Walton Hall torch run?

<raises hand>

Allow me to list the actual festivities:

1) Beer
2) A solid hour of actually running the torch while drunk
3) Beer
4) Jail
5) Beer
6) Attempts to cut down trees on t.u.'s campus; also see 4)
7) Beer
8) A word that rhymes with Raising
9) Beer
10) Did I mention beer?

Oh yes, and it was the Aggie Spirit and all that. That torch was used to light bonfire. It was supposedly lit by the "eternal flame" monument near DKR. Try and find that sometime.

The Walton "New Boys" departed for Austin today to find said eternal flame and bring it back to light Bonfire tomorrow night.

I sure hope they make it back on time.

Yup, now called K-Dorm.

K got a rap in the mid-to-late 90s as a ramp that was badass to itself, but really didn't do much with Walton. So, the moniker "K-Dorm" was born.

We (They now since I'm gone) have kept the name but incorporated KD back into Walton.

Wasn't just K-ramp and there was a reason Walton had an RA in every ramp...

Yes there were Y-sticks, I have the scratches on my pot as evidence of their use, and my luck to be next to them (and my stupidity to not get out the way).

Not that they were needed them, we slammed the logs by ourselves, Y-sticks were just so they would have to do the actual lifting.

BTHOB! BTHOtu!

A-WHOOP!

Veteran of Fightin Texas Aggie Walton Hall Torch Run 1998. One of the greatest experiences of my freshman year!

Here's my run down.

1) Beer
2) A solid hour of actually running the torch while drunk
3) Beer
4) M.I.P (I hate Dime Box)
5) Beer
6) Taking Pictures Swinging from the bronze Bevo's horns, and stradling the face of the bronze student sitting on the bench next to him.
7) Beer
8) UT Cops poking drunk passed out guys with thier flashlights to be sure they are alive.
9) FREEZING MY BALLS OFF!
10) A guy eating a can of snuff.
11) Fighting with HHH at 5 am
12) Telling the HHH hall director your name is "Eric Johnson" when he tries to write you up.

As an RA in Walton last year I was looking through some old binders in the hall council office, and I found the original flier for the first ever torch run in 69, or 70. It was pretty cool!

I should also mention the great fun I and 20 other Walton Warriors had cleaning up a cemetary in Dime Box a month later for our commhnity service for the MIP's.

I lived in K-15 then K-16. The fights with Schumacker being just 20 feet away were awesome.

Yes, I took part in the torch run for 1991 and 1992 and lived in Walton those years. My freshman year, we got into a little trouble, but not too much. I was soo excited to know that I would be carrying the torch that would be used to light Bonfire.

We had several adult beverages and arrived at the stadium with a group of about 20 or so. I immediately had to relieve myself, so I proceeded to urinate on the seal of memorial stadium to show my spite for the opposing team. While in the act, a cop pulls up and asks me what I am doing. I finish, and tell him I just had to go and pissing on tu was a wonderful place to do it. Luckily, his brother was an Aggie and he let me go.

We did several yells and were really amped and then went to the highway where we started running. Going through the first small town (cannot remember the name) the local cop pulled up to us as all of the underaged threw their beer over the fence on the side of the road. He asked us what in the world we were doing and we explained. It was cold. He did not want us to get hit on the side of the road, so he followed us through his town. We ran and took turns a mile at a time for about 15 miles or so.

Then we turned it up and took it home. It was a great experience.

The crazy part is that when you get the torch back to Walton, we have to keep it secretly becuase others try to swipe it so we moved it from dorm to dorm among a few of us. When Bonfire was lit, I felt so proud that we had it in our room for a good spell and that the torch had been to Austin.
