The bar owners' beef is with the owner....or sadly themselves for signing a lease with those terms. If it was in there then perhaps the landlord had already known what may be coming, though most all commercial leases have eminent domain language in them. Typically you would at least negotiate to make yourself whole for loss of ff&e. Unfortunately there isn't much more you can do.

No offense to the owners but bars are a dime a dozen. The school offered to help them relocate their business and may just buy them out. Seems like they are making an effort.

So everything is being done above board? Deep Ellum will trade a dime-a-dozen bar for a state of the art dental school? Oh, and A&M offered to pay for relocation? These two don't even own the building. The actual owner filed for bankruptcy and then tried to ask for significantly more money than 2 appraisers valued the property for. Sounds like sour grapes to me.

TAMU offered to relocate them. That alone should have been a red light to anyone that they need to realize they will be moving. The owner of the building was offered the higher of the two appraisals. He's an idiot for not taking it. I don't like eminent domain but it's the law of the land and it won't be changed.

I emailed him today...I ask....
May so ask where you got your college degree...your orange colored glasses are all over this article.I am not an A&M alum but notice how often negative headlines about A&M are large and prominent. A friend of mine called it to my attention about a year ago and I guess he was correct. Try to be more objective.

I've lived in Dallas since 1982 except the years I was at TAMU and went to SMU grad school. I currently live in East Dallas and have been to several Deep Ellum clubs, bars and restaurants over the years, Probably been down to Deep Ellum ten times in the last year alone for lunch, dinner, drinks, etc.....


I could name a dozen Deep Ellum places off the top of my head.....but I've never heard of this "landmark".

I couldn't even tell you where it is.....
