Ah, The good ol' days. It would seem Herbie has had a change of heart. Looks like we have our work cut out next year Ags.

Do people really care about this? That soundbite was obvious crowd fodder to get the A&M folks hyped up for a good ESPN Gameday appearance.

I guess I answered my own question. That soundbite is in like every "There's a Spirit" videos.

In all reality, I don't feel that the student section really changed much from year-to-year. They are always loud and they will always be supportive. The only major change it that's going to happen will be at the team gets the whole stadium to a point where they are making noise. The only way to do that is when big games at home. That is something we have definitely struggled with in recent years.

whats particularly awesome is he mentions our struggles. Yet the last 4 years....

A&M 36-16
Penn St. 29-21
Wisconsin 38-16

So ummmm......yeah Wisconsin barely is ahead of us - by virtue of playing 2 more games.

Wisconsin gets way drunker than us, it doesn't surprise me they are better.

Been to Wisconsin, they were playing #1 Michigan. Crowd was old and quiet. There student ticket allotment is quite small.
Not impressed

Last year (and for many years now) we put 30-35k in the student section, even with all the "don't win SEC at home" and everything else. Allowing for visitors and other non-students that's still at least 25k students per game.

There's no comparison.

UW has 29k undergrad total. So they may be more drunk (don't know, never been) or more "fun" (you define it) but the only real way I can see "best student section" is numbers. We have the acknowledged record. Case closed.

So our student section will double in greatness when we have 80,000 students.....ok.....numbers don't matter in this type of thing....rowdiness, spirit, etc, is what matters

The student section hasn't been loud since the early 90s.

Sure it has. Tell that to my buddies were standing on the alumni side and got told to sit down because they were making too much noise.

Numbers do matter (as do the other items you mention.). 5k rabid fans will not make as much noise, etc as 30k that are a little less enthusiastic.

I have found our student section to be far more involved than most, so our numbers must be at least partly responsible.

As far as 80k goes we may well be close to saturation at this point already (55k) - I can't see that we can accommodate many more students in Kyle without undesirable side effects. So that may solve itself, as pricing/competition will lend to a higher percentage of those who are enthusiastic since those who are less won't pay or fight the lines or whatever will be the limiting factor.

Well in the previous four seasons A&M is 17-15 in SEC play and underwater in the past three seasons. Being 1-7 against LSU and Alabama isn't helping.

Win and like most places the atmosphere is better

Who cares? Herbie puts on a do gooder face but is as self absorbed as the rest of them. He is the JJ Watt of sports broadcasters.

Herbstreit I guess can be knocked for his game day stuff for not kissing ass or at least not doing it often enough.

But his announcing is great, I enjoy listening to him call a game.

Late 90s... The 98 Nebraska game was one of the loudest folks can recall and we didn't even have the zone that game.

Why? Drunk people are louder. That's just common sense.

I remember the two loudest games I ever attended as a student: Kansas State in 2000 and OU in 2002.

In 2000 Kansas State had to burn timeouts because they couldn't hear the signals in the huddle -- this, of course, only caused the 12th Man to get louder. I still get chills thinking about it.

In 2002, the year that we beat #1 OU, I can still remember walking down the ramps and hearing the constant cheer, long after we'd sung the last war hymn of the day. That stadium echoed for a solid hour after the final whistle, and the euphoria of what I had just witnessed and been a part of is a feeling I will take with me forever.

So who gives a **** what someone tweets or the decibel ratings at another stadium? In my heart and in my mind, those moments on those days will forever live on as incredible memories of what the 12th Man can do.

Yep, our games are loud as hell when youre sitting in the student section where everyone is standing snd yelling.

Graduate, move away, and come back for a game or two with tickets in the Zone or the on the almuni side surrounded by elderly folks in dockers and families who spend half the game digging im their luggage for little ziploc baggies of cheerios, and all of a sudden the games dont seem loud anymore.

Wash, rinse, repeat.

What about home games over the last three years? I honestly don't know about Wisconsin or Penn St, but it isn't just that we are losing them. It's that our team has shown up and played so horribly in some games that the crowd just can't keep up the energy.

Yes, we have good overall record in the last 4 years, but for sec home games in the last 4 years we are 6-9 with 3 blowout losses in the past 2 seasons.

2010 Nebraska was loud...I think the fact it was cool and at night helped a lot. We need to petition for more night games. I think it became a tradition at LSU because their faculty realized the longer they drink the rowdier they get and you won't have fans passing out because of the heat in the stadium.

Yup, Reggie F'n McNeal... Thought he was destined for great things in NFL...

Was at that game, wasn't sure if the WR caught the pass for a TD at back of end zone at the time. That throw was awesome.

Wasn't a lot to get loud about most of that time! Late years of RC (3 yards and a cloud of dust), Frantastic and the no offense option game with the slow no go no defense; Sherman and the second half crumble rumble! Follow that up with the 5-0 stumble to 8 wins Sumlin.... It's a wonder we have any students showing up anymore! If you don't get to kiss your date on scoring plays, things might be a different story!

Loudness is proportional to the play of our D.

This year it's gonna be crazy loud.

I certainly hope this is the case. We have all the parts and pieces. We just need to put it together.
