Just saw it. Good segment with his step daughter Bonnie, who has her own album out now. And he is her bus driver on tour. I was in school when Jackie was coaching our Fighting Texas Aggies. Go watch the segment.

Great segment! His daughter's new album has gotten some great reviews and is really good. Figures, it was produced by David Cobb ( worked with Stapleton, Sturgill, Isbell). It's called "Ain't Who I Was", very R&B, soul sound to it.

My daughter worked in the coaches office for two years. He treated the office staff fantastic. She learned a great deal about how to treat a staff from him that she has always used in her profession.

When he showed up at Coach's Night during the Fran and Sherman eras, there were 10 times amount of people in line to meet and shake hands with him than there were for the head coach!!

Emory Bellard, an exceptional football coach, got A&M almost turned before he got a bellyfull and said, "The hell with it".

Jackie had the toughness to see it through; he got it turned all the way.

The school president had no toughness to match, and ran out on him. So he went to State and became the best football coach they have had (and beat Texas twice).

Those (of us) who feel they understand him think he will always be due A&M's gratitude and, beyond that, respect.

Personally, I think the trait I regard most is that nobody has seen him cry, bytch or apologize. He is the picture of the old saying, "Don't complain, don't explain".

I have never met Sherrill, but to me he has always epitomized A Man.

While my wife was at A&M she got a wild hair to just go up to his house one morning and see if he would sign her 12th Man towel. Coach's wife answered the door and was a bit taken aback but she called Coach downstairs. He came down and they stood and talked for about 10 minutes. And she got her signed towel. Good bull.

Was at Jackies first game at Kyle. We played Boston College with a QB named Flutie. It was hot and the outcome of the game was not good.

However, it did not diminish what Jackie brought to the program.

Yes it was '82.....I had to look it up. '83 was when we did the 3 Stooges routine on the south goal line and spazzed to Cal.

1983 was the year Murray won the QB job as a freshman. I knew there were bright days ahead when he was named SWC player of the week after knocking off Arkansas.

In 1988 I was a sophomore and was dating a girl who worked in President Mobley's office, so we got invited to a party at his house the night of Bonfire. I will NEVER forget when Jackie walked in the front door.......wearing a floor-length mink coat.

The air in the room instantly changed. Total badass.
