About time we got some real coaches on the offensive side of the ball.

Good luck to Tate, I'm sure he's a good kid.

The problem is, to win in college football you HAVE to put up with it.....you think Ohio St didn't have a ton of prima donnas? Their rb was terrible in that sense....called the coaches out publicly. Sorry, but college football is made up of a bunch of 18-22 yr old prima donnas and if you can't handle them then you need to go Div II where none are primadonnas.

Ohio State has enough cache to be able to tell their prima donnas to cool it and still attract elite talent. A&M does not. It's really that simple.

I hope that's the reason for the defections.

I agree, Ohio St. and Bama have coaches with that cache, and if we want to get to their level we also need coaches with that-----we are working from behind b/c we are hoping to have a coach create that cache as opposed to those two already have it......but if Sumlin can't create it, he won't win at the highest level in college.

The term prima donna is feminine (linguistic) gender referring to the lead singer--usually soprano--of an opera. The feminine plural is prime donne. The masculine singular is primo uomo. Masculine plural is primos uomini, I believe.

That means recruiting talent is in the toilet.

You don't know the difference between being a prima-donna and confidence or maybe even a bit of arrogance if you think you need prima-donnas to win. Ohio St. had 3 QBs on their team that could start for anyone. If they were prima-donnas they would have left like ours did. You need talent, but you also need a leader and a winner at QB. Prima-donnas will get you what Murray and Allen brought to us. Confident players don't demand that you don't offer another QB. Winners don't care because they know they will beat out whoever you bring it.

I disagree-----I think Saban and Meyer have the cache to put those prima donnas in ther place and do what's best for the team.......I don't think Sumlin has a clue as to how to handle that situation and he lets it fester so much that it's lead to players transfering.......I tink the leaving is a result of all the terrible leadership or cache

Are we seriously comparing Bama and tosu prima donnas to ours?

This is a non issue at those places because their coaches have as many championship rings as we've had QBs that have transferred in the last 4 years.

Ezekial Elliot wasn't a prima donna, he was a national champion RB with 200yd skins on the wall. Huge difference between that and a high school senior.

Maazzone and Turner aren't going to do **** to turn the program around. Sumlin will be fired at years end and Mazzone and Turner will be out of a job yet again laughing it up with Christensen.

How can Sumlin put a prima-donna in his place that is still in High School. Look, I can pen point the exact day Murray checked out. It was the Bama game. He got popped really good. He didn't want anymore of that. He was never the same the rest of the season. That is why I didn't care if Murray or Allen left. Murray is a better fit for the Big12. In the SEC you better have a man at QB. Manziel was a once in a generation player. And he still got injuried and wore down. That is why I never liked the Martel offer. Is he talented, Yes. But guys listed at under 6 ft. and 190 will have trouble lasting a season in the SEC in my opinion. Just too many big fast defensive players week after week. Somebody will get their shot at you at some point every game. We have a 6'4" freshman, Hubes and I am really high on Knight. We have a top duel-threat QB coming in. Actually I believe this has more to do with Martel leaving than anything. Oh, and Allen just wasn't as good as everyone thought.

By the way, Saban has top rated QBs lined up from here to Austin on his team. He has the luxury of getting guys in line and not caring if one leaves. And look at Meyer at Florida. He had the biggest bunch of thugs and prima-donnas in the Nation. Anyone who thinks Urban Meyer runs a tight ship just isn't paying attention!

It's cachet NOT cache. Look up the definitions of both.

some of you are making our University look incompetent.

I think it's spelled "cash, eh?" As in "when it comes to recruiting, Ohio State has plenty of cash, eh?"

But seriously it's actually spelled cachet.

He may not be but maybe he just wasn't ready to be a starter. May have needed another year or two since playing in front of 100k and being chased by the best defensive players in the country could take some acclamation.

Citizen - You may be right about Allen not being ready. But leaving when told the job would be won in the spring through competition caused him to leave from what I hear. If that is the case, and I believe the people who told me that, then it is his fault for not staying around and trying to get ready.

What a ******

OP - keep projecting your hope on what you think the assistant coaches' personalities will be. That's been proven effective on TexAgs many times. If you type it, it will be true!

Sherman didn't recruit guys like this. And where are they now? 6 first rounders in the NFL.

Sherman's problem was game day preparation and management. If he had more of that he'd still be here and competing for championships. We should have given him one more year at least.

Why do you assume that Meyer just isn't better than our coaching staff at getting players to buy into the program and thus, they stick around?

None of that answers my question.

It just seems to suggest Meyer won championships with "prima donnas and thugs", the kinds of players you're complaining about.

Tango - Just because you disagree doesn't mean it isn't true. Most of you guys hate Sumlin so bad you couldn't agree with anything that might give him the benefit of doubt. Martells dad said since the hiring of Mazzone there hasn't been much contact with A&M that is why he opened up recruiting again. I have been in this business a while. When a staff does that it means Mazzone or the entire staff changed their mind on Tate. The guy is a Spav. recruit. He is small and would not hold up running the zone read in the SEC. To be honest I doubt he would last a full season. (Manziel was a once in a generation player and got hurt and wore down because of lack of size.) Which was OK for a Spav coached team because he left the option man on defense unblocked like you do running the Zone read but never truly read the option man or ran the QB. Which is a terrible scheme. I believe Hunter Goodwin made the same comments. Murray may be great in the Big 12 where the defense is not as big or good. But he was just to small to take a SEC beating week after week. Just my opinion.
