Big 12/SEC both wanted the Sugar Bowl to be on New Years Day as well.

Yea but they fought con. Realignment, vthe BCS and the playoffs. All eventually happened anyway just not as quickly or as well as they could have.

The playoff committee, ESPN and sponsors love the rose bowl. It's not anywhere and neither is its influence.

The Rose Bowl is consistently the most boring major bowl game. It's not the granddaddy of ****. Stupid slogan.

"Grandest venue in American Sport" - uh no. It's a hell hole - old and decrepit.

"Nothing signifies NEW YEARS like the Rose Bowl" - oh hell.

Early this morning Herb Kirkstreet and Desmond Howard were on TV talking about how this is the only real bowl game and the dream of every young man to be here and how the air just smells sweeter in CA and the view is unbelievable. I thought they were going to do each other on the 50 yard line. These two can't stand it that the glory days of the Rose Bowl are ancient history.

The Stanford/Michigan State Rose Bowl 2 years ago was a great game.

I'm still dreaming of the day that the Ags get to play a Rose Bowl game on New Year's Day. That, obviously has yet to happen.

Only high point of this game - I know the pilot of the B-2 doing the flyover. Get ready - oughta be cool.

It is not possible for A&M or any SEC team to play in the Rose Bowl game. Not the way the playoffs are set up.

Now, obviously we are playing at the rose bowl against ucla in 2017.

BTW, why did they play the playoffs on NYE and not Saturday this year?

I love the Rose Bowl.
I've always enjoyed it more than any of the other bowl games.

All the bowl games suck except for the playoffs and the mc game

Bowls were more meaningful when there was no NC game and in most years the outcomes of several bowls had bearing on who won the nc

As you know, budget cuts have eliminated the military fly overs at large events.

Well, there's a group of guys in Kansas City who do some formation flying, in their own planes, and decided they'd volunteer to pick up the slack.

They invited a couple of other groups to join them and before they knew it they had 48 guys with their homemade airplanes signing up to join in. If they had more time, they probably would have gotten an even larger group as people kept joining and a 49th was added near the event.

One additional feature of the flyover was the use of pink smoke for cancer awareness.

The folks from the Guinness Book were there and are expected to confirm it as the largest formation flight ever.

And to top it off the crowd later set the record for the loudest gathering at a football stadium.

That's pretty freaking cool.
