He is currently their D line coach, and NO! I am not implying replacing Price with him at all. Hagen on the other hand while he's been a decent coach for us, doesn't bring half of what Ed Orgeron can. The dude is a stellar recruiter, hell don't even make him a position coach, make him recruiting coordinator Sumlin do not let this guy get hired by Alabama or another conference team please. Son of a ***** has a silver tongue and flat out gets elite players out of the SouthEast. Que the anti recruiter position coach guys..

Michael, I agree the guy can recruit. But I would foresee him becoming a real headache on the coaching staff. IMO he still believes that he should be the head coach at USC.

Orgeron is rumored to be looking at the Syracuse Head Coaching job.

Well you have to try at least. We certainly can't afford for Bama or a division rival to pick him up. His recruiting prowess with Chavis coaching them up. Oh lawd!

Alabama will not be interested.

And I suspect neither will we.

Orgeron has some "baggage" which is why he didn't get the USC job. Plus his personality doesn't mesh with the whine and cheese crowd in LaLa Land.

But Syracuse?? LOL. Talk about a fish out of water. Orgeron would find that job just awful.

If Memphis can't keep Fuente however, Orgeron would be perfect for that job.

Like Lane Kiffin baggage? Yeah, Saban goes for values over winning.

Kiffin is a good offensive coach and good recruiter

Ogeron is a good recruiter that is dirty according to many.

The "baggage" isn't comparable

This.

Kiffin's baggage is that he is flighty and a goofball, and got the USC job before he was ready to be a HC there. Tennessee is one thing, USC was another level.

But Kiffin is talented.

The first thing anyone says when they mention Orgeron is "recruiter" and seldom does "great DL coach" follow.

Combine that with the fact we are already recruiting very well at DL and Orgeron's benefits don't outweigh his negatives.

I agree about snatching Orgeron because he was great in the Blind Side. Went right to Big Mike's stomach and told him about the great food. That's recruiting!

Before doing anything remotely associated with the defensive side of the ball, I'd advise Sumlin to get Chavis's opinion.

Orgeron is one of the most over-rated assistant coaches of all-time

Orgeron only sticks around for one to three seasons at a time because he's a mercenary. He's a great recruiter because he's dirty. Teams bring him in to build up recruits then help him out the door quickly to stay out of trouble. Also, he's like one of those guys you talk to in a bar. He's got great stories and is entertaining and makes a fun night out. However, you don't want to deal with that guy on a daily basis.

You only bring him in if you don't see any other way to reach the next level of talent quickly.

Orgeron is out to prove he is HC material... Not what we need in a DLine coach. Doubt he's settling for a position coach gig anyway. Plus, dude has a "weird" background...

Orgeron coached 3 years at Syracuse in the mid '90s...he knows what he is getting into at Syracuse.

Not saying we just take him, but FYI - position coaches recruit areas, not their position.

Good lord! Do you people want to win or not? You beetch about lack of talent but don't want to bring in the guy who will get that talent because he has "baggage". There is a reason LSU has the #1 rated recruiting class. It's Orgeron.

Lets stop at "baggage", provide a link from a creditable source of anything he has actually done, or an NCAA investigation. Don't people try to say similar things about Urban Meyer? Not the greatest example, but doesn't everyone always cry fowl when a big recruit snubs them? Greg Little & Ole Miss cough cough...Guy wants to be a HC? Great, bring him in. That is another branch on the Sumlin coaching tree, that looks good to up and coming hot shot assistants. I'd trade some "baggage" to get two top 5 recruiting classes before he gets a new job. He can't be as dirty as some of you claim and still be working at top notch programs. That is not possible.

I want Chief to be able to assembly and hire who he wants as his assistants. He has given the existing staff an opportunity and thus I would support giving Chief the discretion to make any and all defensive staff changes that he desires.

Who cares about Orgeron? We need to pick up the Steele Tiger! Replace Chavis with him. Red Stick & Co. have been assuring us for months that it would be a huge upgrade.

He says he would like to go back as head coach at Syracuse where he was an assistant for a number of years.

Ummm...maybe you should do some research. One google search and you'll find out about NCAA investigations while at Tennessee, USC, and Ole Miss along with legal trouble at Miami. And that's all within the first page or two of search results. If you can't find info about him, then you're not trying.

Hire him. He's been investigated, he wasn't funneling money to the players at SMU in the 80's. Innocent until proven guilty. Like I said, if those investigation were indeed credible he wouldn't be at LSU, and he wouldn't of been at USC either.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ed_Orgeron

Read his coaching history, it doesn't even include his issues/investigations... It's obvious that he's toxic... And you burying your head in the sand won't change that.

Every stop he has had also had some large drama while he is there... and despite all of his recruiting success, his teams either suck or get brought up under investigation... Or both. It's no surprise he will spend only one year at lsu and have another staff exiting out the door with him...
