I've read a lot about how the 2013 class has been a disaster, and seen some people argue that it was "bad luck" and others argue it was "bad recruiting", so I went through and put together a list of what happened to everyone in the class to make my own opinion. Figure some of you all may be interested. All information is essentially off the first page of google search results for each name, so it may not be 100% accurate, and the format was for personal use so sorry about that. Bold names are still on the roster

Joas Aguilar, OL - out after dealing with back issues
Jay Arnold, DE - retired for health reasons
Reggie Chevis, LB RS Soph, Still on team
Darian Claiborne, LB - Kicked off team
Cam Clear, TE Juco transfer, eligibility up
Victor Davis, DB - RS Soph, still with team behind Donovan Wilson
Noel Ellis, DB - RS soph, gets some playing time behind Wilson
Tavares Garner, DB Transfer to get more playing time
Isaiah Golden, DT Kicked off team
Quiv Gonzalez, WR Transfer for playing time
J.J. Gustafson, OL backup to Matthews
Daeshon Hall, DE stud
Kenny Hill, QB Transfer
Sebastian Larue, WR Transfer to get closer to home
Justin Manning, DT RS Soph, Left team for personal reasons for a while
Jordan Mastrogiovanni, LB Got injured, beat out, and left the program
Kameron Miles, DB Dismissed from team for rule violations
Kyrion Parker, WR Transfer for playing time
Jordan Points, DE Transfer for playing time
Tommy Sanders, LB JUCO transfer, eligibility done
RSJ, WR starter
Alex Sezer, CB backup behind Harris/Williams
Kohl Stewart, QB MLB Draft
Jeremiah Stuckey, OL CC transfer, starter as of mid season
Jeremy Tabuyo, WR Backup
Brett Wade, LB Moved to fullback, not on the roster, can't find much on him
Hardreck Walker, DT 3rd string DT
Shaan Washington, LB starter
James White, RB backup, plays when healthy
Johnathan Wiggins, S not on roster, couldn't find anything
JaQuay Williams, WR transfer for playing time
Ishmael Wilson, OL - transfer to be closer to sick mom

On Team - 13
Starter 4 (Hall, RSJ, Washington, Stuckey)
Backup Behind Worthy Starters 7 (Davis, Gustafson, Sezer, Tabuyo, White, Walker, Ellis)
Other Backup- 2 (Chevis, Manning)
Off Team - 19
Health 2
Personal (closer to home/Mastro) - 3
Eligibility Over/Pros 3
Transfer for PT (WR, DL) -4
Transfer for PT (QB, DB) 2
Conduct 3
No Info 2

I separated out WR/DL transfers because of the talent we have brought in at that position in the classes since 2013. Some of them actually contributed until younger 5* talent came in behind them.

Thanks for getting that information.

That class really is killing us depth wise. It's incredible how many we lost due to just quitting football because of injuries. Darion Claiborne might be the biggest bummer on that whole list. That kid made plays his freshman year... Damn could we use him at LB right about now.

Interested to look at, thanks for collecting the info. I honestly though the 2013 class was even more of a nightmare than that.

Wasn't Hoza Scott supposed to come from this class too? Could've used another few LBS

I'll stick by my "disastrous" assessment of the 2013 class.

Hall & RSJ are the only above average players among the 30 names.

this class is even worse than Fran's 2005 class that ranked in the top 10 but then fell apart. At least that 05 class had Martellus, J-Train, and 3 or 4 other starters

Good write up. How many have we lost from the '14 class? Many?

And this is the class we got after our "perfect storm" season?

Maybe Sumlin isn't the recruiter we all think he is. I do know this class got the staff to change how they evaluate players. OL and LB from this class is nonexistent.

That class should be RS Soph or Jr's now. Quality depth will continue to be a problem for 2 more seasons because of this.

While chronologically correct, the 2014 class was the one built by the 2012 season.

Think we see the root cause of those 2 positions differently.

Not sure the OL was on Sumlin's recruiting here. WIlson was the highly ranked 4*, who would probably be starting for us if he was still here (backup LT @ Baylor behind an experienced starter). Can't blame the guy or Sumlin on him wanting to be closer to a sick mom. Aguilar was pretty highly touted as well (ESPN 150 guard), but injuries happen. So that's likely an upgrade to both a tackle and guard that was out of Sumlin's control.

On the LB front, losing Claiborne was a big blow. It can be argued that recruiting someone who has character issues or having a program that lets that happen is on Sumlin, and in some ways it is, but if there are no prior indications of misconduct it is hard to so no to that talent. Matsro got thrown in too early because of injuries and lack of depth, and while he probably wouldn't be starter ready until MAYBE his senior year, he would have provided some much needed depth. Could you blame Sumlin for playing him too early? Probably... but he didn't have many other options last year.

He's played quite a bit this year.

Isnt Noel Ellis the backup behind Donovan Wilson? We see him on the field pretty often. I thought Victor Davis was our #4 CB. Maybe I am wrong about Davis' position, but I know we see Ellis out there during the games (not just garbage time).

I can see both sides of the argument when it comes to recruiting guys with questionable character like Claiborne, Miles and Golden. You can blame Sumlin for that and put all the attrition from this class on him, but I personally don't. I definitely don't put the career ending injuries on him.

There's no doubt this class for the most part really stunk it up, but I chalk it up to some really bad luck.I guess I'm in the "you can't predict if kids will use their heads and/or get injured" camp.

Ellis has played the same position as Wilson. They started the year splitting time but Wilson has emerged as a guy that you HAVE to put on the field when running the nickel.

LaRue was subsequently kicked off Washington St for violation of team rules. Also, I think they were trying to convert him to db.

If you're gonna blame Sumlin for "taking a chance" on character kids don't you have to blame all coaches that offered them? Maybe CS just does a better job of not letting a football program cover things up.

He'll have a shot at the starting job next year with BWill and De'Vante graduating.
