Cannon firing

Can someone explain to me why we couldn't fire the cannon inside the stadium last year, but we can now? Seems like there were issues with the concussion of the cannon doing damage last year. Now that we are essentially a bowl (whereas we were still a little open last year) how is it a better situation?

Maybe I missed this over the summer, but it doesn't make much sense to me.

The fired from inside last year (southwest tunnel).

We snuck it in and hoped that the administration wouldn't notice it but dumbass OPs like this can ruin everything.

I'm interested in the answer but I'm not as interested as I am happy that there are no more cannon issues. That part was absolutely great and definitely fixed from last year.

You could probably even hear it while getting concessions.

The cannons are back in the stadium because 1) the decibel ratings of the sound tests didn't adequately support the ES&H sound issue theories (my opinion based on the sound readings I saw during the tests), and 2) a certain Regent asked a certain Corps military advisor what he (the military advisor) thought of the whole cannon issue/hoopla. Said military advisor told said Regent, "It's a cluster function". With that, the Regent took action, and the cannons are back in place - 105mm howitzer for midnight yell and the Spirit of '02 for the games. The loads have been "tuned" to provide adequate noise with safe concussive and smoke levels. BTW, there are warning signs all over the place around the location where the cannons are positioned. They warn of loud noise - huh! If your seats are near the cannons, get some cheap foam earplugs or muffs (which are particularly nice during cold weather games).

I realize this may not be a popular opinion, but the cannon is about the only thing we heard in NW corner. It is way too loud. Either tone it down or get it out of there.

Seriously? We were in 408 and it sounded like a pop gun. Were you lower?

That's crazy. I guess it all depends where you sit. I was in the south end zone at the southwest corner and couldn't hardly hear the cannon at all. Really only heard the echo off the north side. Makes sense though.

If anyone has a pic, please post for those of us who are out of state.

I could hear it on TV but they never showed the cannon.

I hosted a few combat vets both with PTSD who hated the cannon and the fireworks because it triggered them. They figured it out together after the first few touchdowns. I suggest you guys try to do the same. Peace, Baron.

Because the Railgun was not available Friday night.
Cannon Crew Ag
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Current cannon crew member speaking, we use the 105 howitzer for midnight yell because it can be towed behind a truck. That way, we can easily move it in and out of the stadium after midnight yell. Also, somebody earlier said something along the lines of us not firing after extra points. Last Saturday, the team scored enough just off of touchdowns plus other times we had to fire i.e. Bugle call, that we actually ran out of rounds
