Swing pass obviously.

They were mixing up their blitzes and coverages all night. They had some hybrid blitz packages where they had man concepts on the outside and/or guys running to hot read areas to take away quick throws. There isn't a magic bullet. We started moving the ball better when we showed a willingness to run the ball. That's a very well coached defense and they had us scouted well.

We had guys open but I don't think we had an experienced enough QB to take advantage of those opportunities.

Quick slant, duh

Screen plays, quick hit slants, having recievers occupy the space where the defender came from.

Think back to Tceh's Air Raid under Leach. The offense is designed to frustrate blitzes with screens, draws, slants. It doesn:t work when you run into the teeth of the blitz though.

It was blitzing with press coverage that was tough. You can't run WR screens against press man. You can't get that first guy off the receiver.

We did score the first TD on a HB screen.

This, plus they disguised them a lot and came late. Kyle was in an if this then that type of scenario. You cant change the play if they disguise the blitzs like they did. But I agree with the slants. We have Kirk and Noil that are fast enough to run those. Maybe Spav will start to think differently in the future. But I cant put it all on him because we dont know what the checks are. Only Kyle knows those and is ultimately responsible for getting into the right play at the line.

Slants. Just watch and NE Patriot game or little league football team.

We hit RSJ on a hot slant against blitz early.

Remember, the defense knows that's what you're going to try if they show blitz, so they're ready. Being down to only one back, I think that took away a lot of our swing game, which could have really punished them.

point being, and i've said this for years, that the hardest route to defend is a come-back when the CB's back is turned.

Almost every CB will have his back turned at some point when you are running a vertical route in man coverage.

When the receiver stops and comes back, he will almost ALWAYS have a huge advantage on the defender.

It's time we start using this a bit more.

A swing route combined with a slant is standard stuff.

I would have liked to have seen more zone read options with the ability to check to a bubble screen. Especially on that goal line opportunity that ended with a field goal.

They ran one with Kyler and the screen was open but he ended up keeping it for a nice gain but the screen would have likely gone for a TD.

I would have also liked to seen us go five out with no RB...or motion him out.
