What about this guy? He is a Dline guy and an underrated recruiter. He has never been a DC but is there anyway this guy could be a darkhorse?

Bring him in as recruiting coordinator and special assistant. Saban has like 30 of them, why can't we play the game too?
That way he can help with the staff and recruiting, but still be able to enjoy his home life more than a full time coach would. By all accounts the year away has made him quite happy to be spending time with family. I'm sure he's got the itch...so let's let him have the best of both worlds.

Well, he's been a head coach, and he's coached at Arkansas, Miami, Syracuse, Ole Miss, Tennessee, USC, and the Saints. He hasn't been a DC before, but he's a lifelong defensive coach and he's an incredible recruiter.
You could do worse than Ed Orgeron, and you have recently.

As mentioned prior, his recruiting tactics are shady to say the least. I remember all the reports the night Knoxville Tenn was burning of Kiffin being forced to address the media in one room, and Ed in the other telling Vol recruits to come with them to Southern Cal.
A quick look at his Wiki page will tell you a lot of info. I know a little more, but to the untrained eye, just gaze over his tenure at each stop he has been at.
He averages about 2 years per coaching stay. There is a reason behind that. His longest tenure at any place has always included being tied to Kiffin. Its no secret Lane and him are friends, and its also no secret that Lane is not the highest of character.
I believe we can do equal to or better than Coach O as far as "Xs & Os" go.

Of course everyone wants to win. Lets not be silly. The underlying facts are the guy has some serious personal issues that are a real point of concern to potential employers.
Sumlin is in charge, but he aint gonna fix what's going on with Ed O.

Orgeron coached the Saints DL one year and I had a former NFL DL cut him a new ahole as far as his lack of coaching DL technique.
There is a good reason Orgeron lasted only one year as an NFL D Coach.
No doubts about his college recruiting prowess but hell no to him as a DL position Coach.

Nobody is making up stuff about Orgeron. If he had been worth a crap as a DL Coach he would have stayed in the NFL. Even an idiot could see that when Orgeron coached the Saints DL, they would constantly be stymied at the line of scrimmage, get no penetration. No moves to get past the OL.

The breaking point for Orgeron at Ole Miss was when the black bears were in control of the game against MSU and Orgeron decided to go for it on 4th down on the black bear side of the 50.
The black bears got stuffed, lost the game, and Orgeron was fired the next day. Good recruiter but in no way an x"s and O's guy.
