The players met with the President of the university and a couple of them had some things to say. I feel bad for ever single one of those guys. I can't imagine having a sport you have put your blood, sweat and tears into being ripped away from you.

I like where you're going with this.

As strength of schedule becomes increasingly more important for the playoffs, one of two things will likely happen... Either there will be a new division of football - Those from the power conferences and those who are not, but are still larger than the FCS programs. Or, these types of programs will not be able to find an alternative revenue stream to make up for the loss of the huge payouts to get beat up by the bigger programs and will close shop like UAB is having to do. It's an unfortunate outcome of the playoff system.

As the divide between haves (power 5) and have nots grows there will be more of these. Not good for the sport, but that is what happens when the small players are shut out financially. Oh, and also the fact that they had little fan support.

When the Big 12 dissolves in 10 years, I look forward to Baylor getting shut down.

Had nothing to do with Power 5 and $$$ as Danny Kanell said. All about politics. Alabama Board of trustees doesn't want UAB football to be successful for fear of competition with Bama and Auburn. UAB and Jimbo Fisher had a signed agreement circa 2007 and BOT nixed it. Bama and Auburn arent allowed to play UAB, Troy etc. Saban could've used his power and influence to stop this decision. Feel bad for Freshman Sophs and Juniors.

At 18 my dad moved 700 miles from home to play college football on scholarship at a school comparable in stature to UAB and.....the program was canceled that semester. What did he do? Cry about it to admin? Go back home?

No. He got an actual education that enabled him to support his wife and young children rather than chasing some pipe dream about making a living at football.

I feel bad for these young guys, but hopefully the majority of them--the ones for whom collegiate football is the end of their football road--take the long view on this situation. And hopefully the good ones all transfer to A&M.

There is a whole bunch of UAB's coming..... Football doesn't pay for most schools.

College is very different from when our parents went to school. Some of these guys might be able to make a small living playing football, but I doubt most had those expectations. I think most are devastated at losing their scholarships, and some are probably going to have to go home because they can't secure student loans or other financing. I hope some can find a landing place to keep playing.

This makes no sense. This would be like A&M or Texas having it in for Texas State or some other small fries program.

Is the university not going to honor their scholarships? If not, that's low.

Don't know why they didn't just drop to FCS. Was that option even entertained?

i feel bad for the players. They made a commitment to play for UAB, and now they are left with no football. They were also headed in the right direction by going bowl eligible this season. I hope someone gives those players a chance.
