What was the issue on the signal thing when Garrett caused Jennings to fumble? It was 4th down but, gave LSU the option to play 3rd down?

Not sure who is calling a worse game, the refs or our coaches.

They ruled it a fumble which was recovered by a LSU player who was still on his feet but the ref blew the whistle like it was an incomplete pass.

Since the play should still have been live but the ref blew the whistle, it was ruled an inadvertent whistle. LSU had the option to replay the down.

Refs are killing us, but we'd lose anyway

Our defenders should have grabbed the ball. Instead they were celebrating like it was movie day!

Here is what happened.

One set of officials called a forward pass, and blew the play dead after the ball hit the ground.

A second set of officials called a fumble, and wanted to allow the play to continue. The LSU player recovered the ball 1 yard short of the first down, and was not able to advance the ball because the play was blown dead. Therefore, the officials ruled that the result of the play was an inadvertent whistle, and gave LSU the option to replay the down.

HOWEVER! A forward fumble recovered by the offense can not be advanced. The play was over at the spot that the LSU player recovered the fumble. The inadvertent whistle was completely without consequence. It should have been 4th and 1 LSU.

Unfortunately, the officials, who are paid almost $100k a year, don't even know the rulebook well enough to get this call right. There was no situation in that play that would have resulted in an LSU 1st down. The officiating crew is either crooked or incompetent. It is one thing to miss a close call. It is a totally other issue when you don't even know the rules of the game well enough to make the right call.

Find it odd that a referees incompetence should be an advantage for one team. Not so much odd as bull*****. He signaled incomplete pass, so pur players quit. They did exactly what they were supposed to do and got screwed by referees that would drown in a hard rain. Unbelievable.

These officials have been absolutely terrible.

Same as always. One team held to the letter of the law and most conservative interpretation. Other team allowed to play in a large gray area. If that was called targeting every time 5-10 players a game would be ejected. Only A&M gets that called on them and has several times since the rule was put in.
