Talk last week on tv during SMU game that Matt Davis told coaches "anytime QB points thumb down it's a run"

Yesterday, Bielima said they felt comfortable on defense...."just get lined up and their formations will tell you what they are going to do"

Also, talk of Auburn "stealing signs" from other teams

Or were we simply "off" yesterday?

Afraid so...but if we're on they can't stop us anyway with our talent. But if we're off, then it doesn't matter anyway.

Spav called an awful game. Like the rest of our team he is young, talented, but inexperienced.

Teams are going to adjust to it but we were way off. Cut out the penalties, drops, and ed pope fall downs and we hang half a hunnerd easy.

Against SC we were near flawless. Haven't been since. We'll get it back.

We had several dropped passes, some costing us points. . We fell down in the open field after a perfectly thrown deep ball 15 yards behind the nearest DB and didn't score that drive costing us points. Missed a short FG. Play calling could have been better. But if we make those plays we win by double digits.

in the RC days, when we ran on 3rd and 1inside the 10 and didn't get it, the complaint was "everyone knows you are going to run!!!!" terrible play call!!!!!!"

The jumbo set has got to go or be re-worked. Can't keep getting penalized whenever you put it in.

Kennedy dropped a sure td and Pope tripped over his own feet after catching a sure td and we didnt score that drive. The team missed plent of opportunities

They were able to get pressure with a 4 man rush. Throwing short routes into 7!defenders ain't easy. We ran the ball successfully and wore down their defense allowing Hill more time and receivers time to find the open gaps or get deep.

If we take away the drops and hit the open receivers then this was a cakewalk game. Take the "w" and reload!

I know Sumlin and co. want to pass but when the running game is successful you've got to keep at it

I said it before and during the game... We should have leaned on the run game. Arky was giving it up so they could cover the pass, and we never took advantage. Spav needs to watch tape of himself and his calls. I bet he will. This team has the ability to run or pass. When another team sells out to take away the passing game, we have to show the patience to just run it down their throat. We didn't do that.

Personally, I think a lot of it goes back to tempo. In the 4th, when we were playing rapid fire (closer to the Johnny years), we were tearing them up. Our offense this year overall has been at slower pace. This keeps our defense off of the field and manages the clock better. Now I know that y'all know all of that, but it was amazing to see it in the last 7-8 minutes.

Arkansas had a good game plan, which was to deny the short passes, but the reality is our offense shot itself in the foot for 3+ quarters with dropped balls, off throws, broken plays, and penalties. Arkansas' strategy almost worked except our defense held up and the offense became the Aggie offense again in the last 8 minutes of the game.

Yup.

Hey OP - your "our defense is trash" post was one of the dumbest of the day. Maybe think before you post what pops up in your brain every millisecond?

I agree with others here that Spav called some bad plays. I'm sure when he looks at film he's gonna say "what was I thinking?" Surely they'll practice the no receivers formation and make the tight ends hold their position before the snap.

I guess ARK. should have thrown a pass on 4th and one in OT. See how easy that is after you see the results.

Play calling wasn't great but the biggest problems were: stupid penalties, dropped passes, Kenny was off a bit and Ifedi had a horrible game against Flowers.

I said this before. We should have had 35 points at half time if not for all the miscues.

Our offense is very predictable. If it is ran properly it doesn't matter if you know what's coming. It's designed to attack whatever weakness is shown on that set. Our only problem is we are not consistently hitting the deep ball.

If/when the deep ball starts working the defense won't be able to sit on the short stuff.

People are overreacting, Arkansas made some nice plays but didn't stop our offense.

1) bad play calling
2) stupid penalties at bad times
3) dropped balls
4) hill was off a little

correct these mistakes and we would of hung about 50 points on a team with a ball control offense. The problem is we are so spoiled we expect a touchdown on every possession.

And hats of to the defense. I don't care about total yards. They held ark to 21 points and got crucial stop after stop to buy the offense some time to get in rhythm.

Kenny's "missing" deep ball was was what won us the game...

VERY predictable, especially when Speedy and B. Williams are healthy.

T. Williams quick cuts for 5-8 yds.... B. Williams to the outside for 10.... Pope making ridiculous catches over the middle... Reynolds out-reaching everyone for high passes.... RSJ over the middle for 15... Carson bulldozing people and making cuts to the outside.... Kennedy with clutch catches and the extra moves to pick up first downs.

It's almost like every play is "yeah, I've seen that 10 times before..."

Arky attacked the short and intermediate, which took away the easy stuff and challenged Kenny to throw deep and the OL to protect well enough for the deeper plays to develop. They both struggled to do so at times - combined with some bad drops, but were good enough to eventually get it done.

We are very predictable. Every game you know we are putting up big points. We have scored less than 30 points only 5 times in the last 3 years, and three of those came in Sumlin's first year.

If Kenny scrambled just a bit more and could connect the long ball regularly, we'd be keeping them guessing every down.

It's amazing what a difference a few dropped balls can make in a game, especially when the QB is struggling and needs his WR's to help him out. Drive killers matter.

I know it's close to heresy around here, but the OL wasn't all that good yesterday. Give Kenny another second or two and it's a blowout.

Biggest difference is defenses don't have to worry about our qb running. This will change when Kyler Murray gets here. Puts a lot of pressure on a defense.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I think the biggest thing that Arky had going for them was the ability of their D line to cause havoc for us in our passing game. We also didn't help ourselves with miscues.
GhostRider76
How long do you want to ignore this user?
It's not they we are predictable...it's that we didn't execute...When the O is humming who can stop us...This game should not have been close at all...Too many penalties in crucial situations...drop balls...passes behind the open receivers...missed Field goal...etc...Ags should have won big...at least by 17 points more...and don't get me started on the fake punt...everyone knew it was coming...the Aggies had all the players there to stop it, but for some reason all four players on the left side took an inside rush and no one sealed the outside....That was bad...I was yelling watch out for the fake punt...
S.A. Aggie
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Ghostrider I completely agree. We did not execute yesterday on both sides of the ball until the end. Execute those plays and this would not have been close.

This offense rolls when it finds its rhythm. The miscues in our second drive coupled with Hill getting fired up with the roughing on the Arky sidelines caused the Aggies to lose that rhythm. If those two things don't happen I think it's a very different ballgame.

For the most part Kenny Hill has ice in his veins, but when he gets jolted he's out of his comfort zone.

Yes...we also are not applying our fast paced concept. Too many audibiles and they take to long giving D the chance to get set.

Kenny Hill doesn't have the same running ability as Manziel and I think the offense may struggle at times as a result. What made A&M's offense so difficult to defend against with Manziel is that defenses had to respect his running ability. It's much different this year.

Kenny Hill has a great arm and WR talent for days, and that in itself can be a VERY good offense. It's a lot different than years past though. That's not to say they still can't be one of the best offenses in the SEC.
