He's right. Traditions are only supported by the administration when it is expedient for them to do so. Those traditions are ours. Not theirs. And they will continue to disappear one by one until we are just every other university.

I don't give a crap about the cannon.

Expect 99% who attended games when the cannon was in the stadium want it back. Hyman is not doing himself any favors antagonizing the fans by not taking the cannon issue seriously.

OP may be on to something.

We had no cannon while I was a student, '66-'70, well, ahem, '72. This cannon was found out on the range science area around the airpot in about '77, was rennovated, with a caison. So, we revert baack to the ol' days.

Yep, agree. And get prissy cheerleaders, hell, the yell boys look like their doing a dance routine out there any way. Get a yell leader from the 60's /70' to show 'em how to do this, these new army boy look like t. u. cheerleaders .

We need a video instead of the actual cannon. Show the yell leaders leading the yell and then flash the clip of Denzel Washington from Training Day and sync it with the cannon's boom.

That brings up a good question. ..if there was no cannon back in the early 70's, then when should a tradition be considered "worth" keeping?

The cannon has been around for almost forty years. Is its relative short time in being a game day tradition (as compared to the others) put it at risk? It seems like from the beginning of the redevelopment there was a "no cannon" inside Kyle plan...was the tradition of the cannon simply overlooked?

BYU has a cannon inside of their "bowl" type stadium...and last night baylor had their cannon running all over an opposing team's field

Somewhere someone has the safety guidelines and reports...somewhere someone has the data and information we are all seeking...we just need more than the authoritarian "because I said so" answer.

PUT IT BACK! can't imagine GameDay without the cannon.been a while since I've been back but I have vivid memories of those perfect smoke rings drifting across the whole field. I was outside the stadium once and heard windows rattle. We are a military school. LET'S USE THE ARTILLERY! PUT IT BACK AND RELOAD! GIG'EM AGGIES! BTHOR!
