Considering that freshman beat out two seniors in Honeycutt and Raven I've put him down as a reason. He has shown good coverage and tackling skills which were lacking for us.

I'm going to assume your no older than 24.

Him earning the starting role is a good sign for next year and beyond. Not this year. Have you ever heard of the rule of starting true freshman on defense?

I'm saying that when your upper classmen are not good enough to beat a true freshman its typically a bad thing. There are unique circumstances where a true freshman comes in and plays out of his mind. Typically, freshman are undersized and lack strength. Then there's that whole experience thing too. Enough with the facts

Me too and I totally agree with you.

But we are still replacing a issue with something that will have its own issues by design.

Again, this change should pay dividends next season and beyond. Not so much this year. Only unless he overcomes all the inexperience and potential size/strength issues

I'm glad we have freshmen that are better than our upperclassmen.

But having seen our upperclassmen play last year, I'm afraid that says more about our upperclassmen than it does about our freshmen. (Would you have wanted us to recruit someone that *couldn't* beat out Honeycutt?)

I won't put our defense in the "plus" column until I see it on the field.

LSU shut us down last year with freshman cornerbacks, so Watts starting may be fine, especially if it motivates the upper classmen coming off the bench.
