It's not their independence day. Cinco de Mayo is the day they defeated the French in the Battle of Puebla. Mexican Independence Day is September 16th (dieciseis de septiembre). Cinco de Mayo is just easy for us gringos to say.

Either way. Mexico sucks. My factual bad.

LOL!!! The French lost to the Mexicans too?!?

Haven't been in many years, but my favorite El Fenix meal was the Puebla Plate.

And, if it wasn't for the Mexicans, the Germans would be speaking French now.

The official mexican imported beer holiday of the USA, because beer importers is specifically what drove it.

Although the Mexicans won the battle, they eventually lost Puebla to the French at the Second Battle of Puebla on 17 May 1863, after which Napoleon III's troops took Mexico City and installed the Habsburg Archduke Maximilian as Emperor of Mexico. Mexican liberal forces held out, though, eventually defeating and capturing Maximilian and his generals on the morning of May 16, 1867 at Santiago de Querétaro. He was executed by firing squad on the morning of June 19 and his last words were, " Viva Mexico, viva la independencia!"

Except for Cancun. I went there when I was 15with the family, and I would sneak off to the other side of the resort where the bartenders would serve me...and I also hit up the nude beach...not as good as I thought it would be though...

Who the hell celebrates beating the French? That would be like celebrating a victory over Baylor. It should be beneath one's dignity.

Cinco de Mayo, although based on a real event, is not really celebrated by anybody outside of the US. It's all done to sell beer.
