this 4* DL wants an offer from Oregon. Read the article for his reason(s).

stupid? probably but many posters on here STILL don't get it when it comes to different combos and why we use alternate unis.

Yes, STUPID! They are here to play football, not have a uniform fashion show. If a difference in uniforms determines whether they play well or not then we've either got a bunch of idiots on the field or the coaching staff is not doing their job.

Anyone who doesn't think uniforms matter is too far gone to understand

It's not that we olds don't get that uniforms matter to kids these days, it's just we think it's sad that uniforms have become an important factor when choosing what school to play for and be associated with the rest of your life.

Uniforms do matter. That's why Alabama and LSU have such a terrible time in recruiting. They haven't appreciably changed their uniforms in decades.

This is a pretty terrible argument because for every one school you can say this for, there are 10+ you can say the opposite for.

Okay, I'll bite. Add Michigan, Ohio State, USC, Florida, Oklahoma, and Texas to the list. Now, you come up with 80 Teams that have had perennial good records that also have many years of wearing flashy uniforms like Oregon. I'll wait.....

And until the scandal, + Penn State.

Maybe it matters. Maybe it doesn't. But if you are choosing where to go to school and play football based on uniforms, you are an idiot.

ag bq... so dumb.. all of those schools have used alternate unis with the exception of maybe 2.

I'll also add to the discussion that all of those schools are traditional powers. They don't need uniform gimmicks because they already have the history and tradition of winning.

Most schools who use uniforms to get the attention of recruits are doing it because it is one way they can set themselves apart.

You're looking at it backwards. The logic is not: "we're really successful and dominant as a football program, let's change our uniforms up."

The logic is: "we are going up against programs that have a ton of history and are dominant, let's change things we can control that recruits might like"

And the recruits do like alternate unis.

This same conversation happens every time we talk about uniforms, and somebody always makes Ag-bq's argument and always gets **** on and for good reason. He's wrong.

i like uniform options. however, it isn't a big of deal as some of you make it out to be. for every kid that make decision based on uniform options there are 100 for which that doesn't matter very much.

There really isn't a discussion to be had here. People don't pick schools SOLELY because of uniforms, but they can sway someone to a certain school if they like them. Oregon, OkSt, Baylor, etc. have also had success which draws in recruits. Someone who wants to be excited by new gear may pick one of them (or us), and someone who values the consistent look and tradition of a uniform may pick an Alabama, Penn St, etc. The bottom line though is that they will tend to pick who wins, is exciting, and seems like a good fit for them.

ag-bq is right.

Even the 'traditional' schools that have come out with alternate uniforms have only done it recently. I think the point is over the grand scheme (before the mid 2000's) flashy uniforms have been less of a necessity and even the BEST performing teams keep their traditional gear or at lest do not switch every week. The examples just shown for Michigan, Ohio State, and OU are misleading as they broke those uniforms out maybe 1 time each season and they certainly don't complete over haul their uniform and brand like some schools are doing.

The uniforms matter argument doesn't hold much water when you see that t.u. changed theirs very little in while Brown was the head coach, yet he pulled in top recruiting classes year after year.

It's almost as if there are multiple factors that play into recruiting.

This is blowing my mind!!!!

Since no one else did it

But like it's been said above there are multiple factors going into recruiting. It was mentioned that Mack Brown experienced success in Austin without changing the uniforms. But the facilities were certainly changed... And even they made a big deal out of getting new practice uniforms (as silly as it sound).

In fact, I know a high school kid that is currently committed to one of our SECWest Rivals (and one that we want badly might I add) that has spent a considerable amount of time on NCAA flipping through the multiple uniform combinations possible with Oregon...

It's pretty simple with the kids actually. Yes uniforms do matter but when you have a history of a winning program your uniforms look good.

In order to win championships you have to wear the same uni every game every year. Teams that do those gimmicky gadgety things like have alternate uni options never win anything ever because traditional unis=championships

It's funny that people that are making this argument are unintentionally making the argument that uniforms do matter after all.
