Coach Allan Weddell was my HC and later talked my Dad back into coaching at Victoria High School back in '86 before Coach Weddell went to LaMarque. Coach Weddell and my Dad had a great relationship as coaches and friends.

My Dad passed away this afternoon, after a couple of years battle with dementia and other health issues.

If the Ags on this board could help me track down Coach Weddell, it would be greatly appreciated. I would really like to inform Coach Weddell of his passing. My family, and I am sure Coach Weddell would appreciate it greatly.

TIA.

I can't really help you other than to point you I'm the direction of the Association, but I am sorry for your loss. My grandmother is suffering from dementia, and my wife's grandfather passed away from Alzheimer's a few years ago. It can really take a tool on you. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I am sure your dad is in a better place and looking down on you with love and joy.

Warrior Poet..

Edit: Number delete.

Sorry for the code, but don't need the net scan calls.

If he needs a hint to who it is and that it is not a joke, tell him of this conversation.

Allan: "What do you think about starting a 170 pound offensive tackle in 4A football?"

Response: "I think you are in trouble".

He will know who it is. Please have him call me tomorrow, so that I can let him know of Dad's passing and when the services are. If he cannot make it for whatever reason, I am sure Mom would like to hear from him.

Thank you Warrior Poet.

You're more than welcome Old Sarge. I will be sure to pass it along tomorrow (will be in the afternoon).

I copied your info so feel free to edit your post.

I'm really sorry to hear about your dad. Any friend of Allan's is a friend of mine so god bless you and your family are in our prayers.

Thank YOU Warrior Poet.

Hope to meet you someday. Got a couple of good stories of Coach's early days I could tell you. With him present, of course. Beer would be good too.

Coach Weddell knew/knows the true art of motivation. One can rah rah/fight-fight the players all they want. It provides motivation short term. I learned from him that true, long term motivation comes from providing an atmosphere in which the player motivates THEMSELVES. This is something not just for players in a game, but in life general.

Your uncle-in law to be (possibly) is not just a football coach, but a lifetime attitude mentor.

Sorry for your loss Old Sarge. I'll second your remarks about coach Weddell. I never played for him, but he did teach me trigonometry at Victoria High. One of the best teachers I ever had.

Sorry for your loss, sarge. Small world. He was our coach at LM and used to run around with the same group as his son and live around the corner. Saw him at a wedding a couple years ago.

Probably a little late.... But Coach Weddell has a facebook. Thats another method of contacting him. As hes quite active on it, since he always pops up in my feed. I graduated/played for him the first year he came back to Brazoswood.

He was a cool man. Has a tu championship ring(I believe its the 1970 one lol), yet he loves A&M. Although If I remember right he drove a big ass orange F-250 to school haha. Coach Weddell is a great guy to be around/talk to.

Got some Flyers on TA also, Class of 77. My wife's first Father in Law was Norman Bennett of VHS. He and my dad became close friends later in life, before both passed, through Sarges dad. Godspeed Coach. He is probably having a scotch with my dad and Bully about now and playing pitch. Our thoughts are with you, your dad and family , KR.

Sarge, saw the announcement in the advocate this morning. Your dad was my OL/DL coach and shotput/discus coach. Was a great man. Taught us a lot about sports and a lot about life. He will be missed.

Got a little story for ya Sarge. Sophomore year at VHS we were at a track meet in Cuero. All of us "big" guys had finished throwing early in the day and were lounging under the stands when your dad walked up and told us we needed to start warming up. We said what for, we are all done. He grinned and said that he entered us in the " Fat man mile"....lol We had never even thought about running a relay before. At the starting line we asked him if he had any tips for us. Again he just grinned and said, " Boys, just haul ass and bear to the left!"

This thread is great. Aggie community being good Ags. Sorry for loss, OP, sounds like he lived a great life. Take pride in that.

Thanks to all that responded, both to the attempts to reach Coach Waddell, and those with comments of support and stories.

The stories, and comments, about Dad are really appreciated. In years before the dementia started, he and I spent many nights down at fishcamp (Seadrift, not Aggie Fishcamp), having a few Lone Star Lights(few is a relative term) in which he told many great stories of coaches he worked with, and of kids he mentored. Also, about history. Not the dates/names stuff, but what the results were of decisions/actions and how it affects our world now.

It is surprising to see the amount of Stingarees on this board.

Thanks to all, for the thoughts and prayers. They are felt.

Ah yes SEADRIFT fish camp. Never got to stay the night there, but popped in a few times with my dad. One of my bigger regrets in life is not going down to fish with my dad. As much as he loved to fish, I never enjoyed it, but damn I wish I had gone! Your dad was a great man Sarge and he touched many lives. He will be missed. Let us know the funeral details if you don't mind, I would like to go, but refuse to by the advocate.
