Rationes et logica meas:


1.Draft status.
The NFL is a conventional league and #2 is a very UNCONVENTIONAL player. Yeah, yeah, RGIII, but he’s BIG and Manziel is still very NOT. He MIGHT be a franchise player in time, but at 6 ft, 200lbs and 20 years old that is a lot to ask an NFL GM to gamble $10 million on.





He’s compared to Doug Flutie, but Flutie was only successful for a short time with the Bills when Jim Kelly went down. The Bears drafted him late but he didn’t pan out anywhere (and he played EVERYWHWERE) and most of his career was in F’ing Calgary and Toronto of the CFL. The CFL…

He won a few playoff games, had some spectacular moments, but he wasn’t able to engineer more than a wild card play-off team, and unfortunately no Super Bowl victory either. NFL GM's don't get nostalgic.

2. THE trophy.
I think - and bear in mind, I don't know the guy any better than the rest of y’all - I think he wants another shot at the hardware. And with even a SLIGHTLY better defense he knows he can get it.





With the BCS B.S. that’s in place we aren’t gonna get a shot at the title this year. But with our propensity to improve as a season develops we are trending toward hitting on all cylinders by November. The schedule won’t be kind next year but Sumlin so far is tremendous on the road. Peyton Manning returned for a shot at the title and I think Manziel will, too.



3. He takes this $h!t seriously.
The dude is an absolute student of the game who wants to polish and hone his skills to perfection. He WANTS to be a better passer, have a better throwing motion, be better at reading defenses. That’s where San Diego George came in. One more season is what I think he needs.






Evans stays, too:

He’s too slow. Me, I don’t care, I think he farts roses, but to the NFL he’s too slow. He needs a summer with a speed coach in Colorado or wherever pro draft prospects train with those weight sleds and the bungle cords up their @$$.

1) The Flutie comparison has always been silly. Separate planets, different players (ask Flutie).

2) Conventional league? Only one team has to have the desire to walk through fire to draft him. Tebow was not conventional and someone wanted him in the first round. More than one someone will want JF in the first round.

I think Manziel CAN be a franchise player, but do NFL GMs right now? How that kid out in Seattle does this year may determine JFF's draft stock more than RG3. Anything less than a top 10-15 pick will not be worth losing another shot at the National Title for Johnny... even though I don't know him andhave never met him.

Whytesox, I like your style. Let me end this debate. Every single player in the first round is a gamble. They are all large investments and they can all get hurt on day one or fail.

Its a risk reward business. Johnny gives many teams a reason to take that risk.

Sorry OP, but Evans is absolutely not coming back next year.

This thread reminds me of the people posting threads last year about how Damontre and Joekel would decide to say for reasons x, y, and z. Neither of them stayed, even though Damontre should have based on his poor combine showing and questions about his work ethic that popped up.

Manziel MIGHT come back, depending on how people tell him he's currently grading out. But if he's projected in the first 2 rounds, he is gone too.

Unless you are saying Flutie's bio is overstating his height by 4 inches, I don't think so. Manziel looks 5-10 , 5-11 max to me. Iv'e tried to pay attention to him standing and walking next to the coaches and other players and I am pretty sure he's not 6'.

A reason for him to stay is that this is probably a QB rich draft. He might get drafted considerably higher in '15 than '14. Not sure it would make up the difference for a yr of deferred pay though and also you have the extra yr of potentially devastating injury risk at the college level. That can be mitigated to some degree with an insurance policy. I still think he gone after this yr.

Manziel will make millions off of the Johnny Football name alone. Evans has a kid to provide for. They're both gone. Can't blame either one.
