Once one concludes the 4400 items (especially the pair of 1500 items at two sittings) were not all signed by JFF, then you have to admit many items are forgeries and the dealers have no credibility. If the dealers are confident they can pass forgeries as legitimate to the end buyers, why ever pay a premium for real autographs? Just use the copiers to make as many as you need. Of course you need a few original autographs to seed the operation, but these can be obtained for free pretty easily.
This makes the most sense because the players know good and well that accepting money for autographs is verboten.
It all pieces together nicely this way. The players are not stupid and are not stupidly taking money. The dealers are frauds and are fraudulently copying autographs to the extent the market requires. Market need explains why there are more Manziel's than Clowney's than Ash's. Media only care about ratings and dropped this bomb during the summer lull when there is only MLB playing. NFL/NCAA resumes and you don't hear about this story on ESPN.
Schad, Rovell, and ESPN have done JFF pretty dirty though. They smeared his reputation for the sake of ratings. Not nice.
