The modern-day entertainment industry of which football is a part is built on lies. Let that sink in.

Coaches lie to get players to sign the dotted line. Boosters pay money to get guys on campus. Players shoot up with performance enhancing drugs and relax with recreational drugs. Guys that should not be allowed to step anywhere near an institution of higher learning (because of criminal records or because they cheated their way through school and can barely write a paragraph) miraculously pass their classes.

Wilson, the problem here is you're preaching to a board full of A&M supporters. A&M supporters = JFF supporters. JFF supporters who have been STARVING for national recognition for something POSITIVE regarding A&M for a change. Finally, Johnny and KDS have brought us something truly outstanding and positive that we could all latch onto.......and then here comes this guy, a barely-above-average player at his own position (anyone who watches with an objective eye sees this).......and the mere fact that he plays for Notre Dame thrusts him into Johnny's stratosphere? THEN, on top of that, this prefabricated story about a dead girlfriend that was allowed to stack onto a legitimately sad story about the kid's grandmother? "Hey maybe we can use this to win the sentimental vote".......and from that point the Manti hype train could not be stopped. Thank God the Heisman voters (though not in nearly sufficient numbers) saw through the smoke screen and awarded the trophy to the nation's most outstanding college football player. He almost won Johnny's trophy based on an absolute sham. Your audience here overwhelmingly saw Teo as the phony he turned out to be......not to mention, you understand we ARE Aggies, right? I understand where you are coming from but I see a difference. Bellichek cheated and he paid for it. Petrino lied and cheated and he is paying for it. I'm not sure it has been proven that Saban lied although I am sure he has.
This thing with Teo had national media attention. People that weren't even football fans were onto this story of his grandmother and girlfriend dying in the same week. A game ball was given by his own coach to a person that didn't exist and I'm sure the guys on his team were being deceived as well. Students from his school raised money for a memorial for her. It went beyond football and lying and cheating to win. In my mind he may not owe me anything but he owes his teammates and he owes his school and he owes his coach at least some kind of explanation.

Manti Te'o owes none of us individually anything. On that point you are correct, and frankly, no one appears to be demanding anything of him individually. However, the Court of Public Opinion is a different beast altogether. The CoPO decides who will be summoned before it, on what charges, and what must be answered. When the CoPO summons an individual before it, that individual must answer to the Court, or be sentenced by it.

Punishment by the Court can be severe. Te'o and Notre Dame will soon find how severe the punishment may be. However, the Court also forgives and often issues pardons of its past sentences. Regardless, the CoPO, not an individual decides who is owed an explanation. You may disagree that Te'o owes anyone anything. But, you are only one vote.

In an earlier time, perhaps 30-40 years ago this would be a big deal. Nowadays it is just so much chatter on social media, and frankly nothing that many of our politicians and business leaders do not do regularly.

We have shown repeatedly that this is how we choose to be entertained. As a group, Americans have always shown a penchant for the low road when it comes to entertainment. This should not surprise you.

This is a guy--a major college football player-- that described a dying girlfriend as the love of his life. He had "dated" her for a year. He got tons of mileage out of it.

Turns out, not only had he never been to first base with her, he'd never even gotten in the on-deck circle.

You really can't figure out why this is news?
