When Manziel puts the ball down and its called a fumble - was this really a fumble? Isn't the play over when the ball hits the ground? Wasn't the ball in his possession?

He was holding the ball and placed it on the ground. The ball is considered an extension of his hand. Basically he used the ball to hold himself up and just left it
