I seriously don't understand why a dance team at Kyle - or anywhere else, frankly - is wanted.

So there are hot girls that perform somewhat titillating performances during time outs. What is the intent?

Are we trying to get guys worked up sexually? If so, why? And if that is the intent, it pretty much fails in that attempt. It's not like they're giving lap dances out there.

Furthermore, I always approved of the logic of having the hots in the stands, not down on the field isolated from everyone else. If they're in the stands, you might have a 0.0000001% chance. If they're on the field, forget about it.

Are you trying to get the crowd louder and more involved? Because if you are, it has the exact opposite impact. At basketball games, how much quieter does the arena get whenever everyone has to stop and respectfully pay attention to the dance team? Nothing will kill the noise of Kyle Field more than a dance team. Every stadium I’ve ever attended gets MUCH quieter when some dance team gets out and does ... whatever it is that they do.

Are we trying for everyone to enjoy choreographed, interpretive dance? Seriously? I've gone to my share of dance recitals - I don't really need to try to cram one in during a football or basketball game.

I mean, it does seem to me like people who are under 25 deciding to attend a unique school and then change it to conform to every other school because people over 25 were just too stupid to understand.

To me, this is a bigger question than Kyle Field. Why does anyone even want this? The only reason I can think of is people want pictures of hot chicks with A&M merchandise on crappy sports blogs. If that's the only reason, it seems really pathetic.

The only intent is to improve our competive nature in hottie threads. We need more pics of hotties to compete in the SEC Hotties threads.

Didn't read, but the answer is likely both.

OK, I did read. But seriously, delete thread - OP, go read the 1000 other threads that exist. No one is saying the ADT should dance on the field - in fact I doubt anyone wants that. So the argument of the stadium getting quieter b/c of them is moot/mute/moat.

Oh, and because we are Texas A&M were we complain and moan about everything, no matter how good it is. If we built a freaking space ship that can travel light speed we would all complain about the lettering on the side, or the placement of the windows.

If that's the case, than that just means we need more Ags on Facebook posting better pics. Our time would be better served by supporting a "post more hot pictures" campaign on campus. We could even make up soome buttons and T-shirts.

Don't like them at Reed (they're basically cheerleaders) so definitely don't want them at Kyle.

I don't get how this is conforming to all the other schools. What other schools have a DANCE TEAM on the sidelines? They have cheer leaders.

And yes, during time outs, breaks, ect, it's nice to look at scantly clad hot ladies on the sideline. It adds entertainment value, and that's never a bad thing as long as it doesn't hurt the game.

All human activity is driven forward because of female attractiveness. Every single thing.

I've tried to read through them, and everyone talks about whether or not we should have the dance team at Kyle Field. Most of the arguments are "tradition - ol' army - etc etc"

My point is, I don't even see why anyone wants any dance team at any sporting event. I've never understood it at any level, and it seems stupid that we make a big deal about it either way. I seriously don't get how it increases anyone's enjoyment one iota.

OP, one might describe the Aggie Corps tradition of 'squeezing' as slighly tittilating and ask why this is desirable. Are we trying to get guys worked up sexually? Like the ADT, perhaps 'squeezing' increases the school's marketability with a national TV audience. Not to mention how 'squeezing' enhances A&M's diverse traditions. Perhaps 'squeezing' is a symbol of acceptance for the GLBT Aggie community.

LSU does have a whole brigade of ladies that aren't cheerleaders that basically stand around looking pretty holding banners and such, in parades/rallies and at the game. Don't know what they're called, or what other purpose they have.

This is the point that everyone seems to assume as dogmatic but I'm disputing. I find it hard to believe that a dance team has ever added entertainment value to a sporting event.

Appreciate the unique hotness of Aggie women in the stands. They don't need tons of make-up, tiny uniforms and pom poms to look hot...Most college cheerleaders look like are right out of an ad for the benefits of penecillin.

Like it or not, with the advent of HDTV there has been a culture shift of showing hot girls on TV sports broadcasts. It has nothing to do with inspiring the crowd at the game. It's all about having more screenshots of hotties associated with the program. A dance team is the baseline of what is needed. Then we need to work on Sterger-izing the front rows
NoHo Hank
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I honestly think people want them because when we're on TV, when the game goes to commercials ESPN (now CBS) will go to shots of the cheerleaders instead of the corps/yell leaders.

Some Ags seem to be pretty self-conscious of our military history, etc... They get embarrassed about the nut squeeze crap and the buzz cuts. They think it makes us look like white conservative cultists. That's really all this is.

Have you even ever been to a professional sporting event?

Are you going to tell me that you have a degree from a top tier university and you believe that the billions of dollars in professional sports and their marketing departments all coming to the same conclusion to include attractive, skin showing female dancers is all unfounded and actually adds no value??????

The Dance Team idea isn't about the fans AT the game. Agreed that it adds nothing to in-game entertainment or for the fans attending the game. Most at the game wouldn't even notice they were there. It's for TV purposes. Something for the cameras to show coming in and out of timeouts other than Corps guys or reveille.

*Disclaimer* I am not taking a position on the argument, just answering your question.

If you don't see how showing the world that we are much more than what is shown on gameday and how that helps us recruit top level kids and takes away a lot of negative press used against us on TV, radio, the internet, etc. then you are stupid, or at least completely dense on the world we live in, marketing, and public relations.

We have a tradition known as the Aggie Dance Team and they represent us quite well, this tradition has a way of representing us in a way not seen much before. Do they not deserve to represent us and only traditions you approve of do? Shall we kick all the women out of Kyle on gameday too? Kick those non-regs out and the Former Students who weren't in the Corps as well?

It is for the T-shirt fans and the national perception of A&M. I have always said that true football fans shouldnt pay much attention to cheerleaders anyways. If you want TNA then a football game is probably the last place you should be! It is just eyecandy though. Throw them out there but dont let them lead the yells or things like that.

It will basically be harmless

BTW aggiesrul8
not every NFL franchise has cheerleaders. If I am not mistaken I think there are 1 or 2 teams that dont have a squad!

EDIT: I apologize, there are 5 teams. Maybe you should check out the number of Superbowl wins between those 5 teams! Fans of teams are fans of teams not the cheerleaders!

All part of the pagentry of the game day event. The bands play, the girls dance, the fans yell, the Aggies win! Not so difficult to understand.

I was about 1000% against this when it was first broached....I mean, it really does seem like a few hard-d*cks are trying to drive this whole thing in the name of "staying current" and being like everybody else in order to not "embarrass ourselves and our image" (insert facepalm here).....but....

I suppose as long as they are kept on the sideline and not featured anywhere on the field during a game, interrupting it, I don't have any great issue with it. Still don't really see the need for it...sorry, my preference would be to have the ladies in the stands, WITH ME, and actually enjoying the thing I paid damn good money for.....you know, A FOOTBALL GAME........but hey, to each their own. As long as they aren't a distraction to what has made Kyle Field "the best game day atmosphere in America" (a distinction we earned WITHOUT a dance team, thank you very much)......then bring 'em on. That way us old-schoolers can still enjoy Kyle Field as we always have, and those of you who are there for the sideshow can sit there with your binoculars like Beavis and Butthead all game and go "huhuhuhhh....boobs!", and you've got your wish as well. And believe me, I love a scantily-dressed hottie as much as anybody, but it just doesn't add to the gameday experience IMO. I've been to plenty of professional sporting events with dance teams, and believe me, the number of people who actually give a crap about their presence are few and far between. Most in attendance are actual sports fans.....you know, give the girls a passing glance during timeouts since there's nothing else going on, but again who leaves a game going "wow how about that dance team?" I think as mentioned earlier, this is all in reaction to have the TV crews focus pretty much exclusively on the Corps block during games, which is almost a natural because it's unique.....what other big-time program in the country has anything like the Corps block? And if that's your argument, I can certainly see that as well. So yes, to give the national eye an alternative to seeing nothing but CT's all game long, I don't have a big issue with it......but it's not the end of the world if it doesn't happen either. I think some of you would seriously jump off a cliff if we don't have a dance team at a football game......

If no dancers then...

Move the dorky CT's to the second deck where they can still sit in a block and fill the lower level with hotties so when on TV or the big screen we see hotties not a bunch of dorks.

The Dance Team adds no more true value to the game than Reveille does. Neither play, nor contribute in any fashion to the results on the field.

However, you might be able to look at some kind of correlation between Dance Team members in general and they tend to date athletes more often. I'm not sure if this is true, but if it is there may be room for an argument to be made there that they would then have the potential of improving our recruiting efforts.

Regardless, the dance team serves a much more important role in our society. Especially in Texas. In Texas Football is king, yet only boys play football. Our most athletic sons will gravitate to football, where our most athletic daughters are left without a truly kingly (or matronly) sport. The most relate female activity to football is Cheerleading. So then we may predict that the girls would gravitate to cheerleading. So if Football is King, Cheerleading is Queen. **Disclaimer: I am in no way advocating cheer leaders at TAMU, quite the opposite.** For those of you who travel a lot, notice how much hotter Texas women are than other states, or other countries. I have always attributed it to the above (our white girls - for being white girls - have surprisingly fit lower halves).

So, by having ADT on the sidelines we are further objectifying women. By showing off our prettiest (or some of our prettiest) women we are providing a visual example of what a women should strive to look like. Therefore, our best hope is that by having ADT on the sideline they receive airtime, and are seen by young impressionable girls on TV (or at the game). Hopefully the outcome becomes that those girls strive to look hotter by exercising/working-out more and in turn the 5's become 6's, the 6's 7's, and so on. As a result it is safe to assume that we would then see the female hotness levels on campus grow. Now not only are recruits benefiting, but so is the general student body.

Further, with more hotties on campus we would be witness to more "Howdy"s. After all, isn't it more likely a guy would say Howdy to an attractive girl? And any true Ag would contend that the more we say Howdy, the stronger our spirit of tradition is.

To summarize:

ADT on sidelines = more hotties on campus = more Howdy's = more tradition.

It may take time, but it's worth it. This, as the SEC move, is a 100-year decision.
