try to watch this as someone who knows absolutely nothing about Texas A&M.

a kid who knows nothing about a&m now believes this is a country, military school with a football team.

is that the image you want? what about the regular student who isnt interested in the military. nothing in this ad shows that there is an opportunity for that kid. even the shots of the students in kyle field put the corps front & center.

Well the image is technically correct. A&M was founded as a rural military college. Even today there isn't all that much around College Station and we have the largest corp of cadets in the country outside of the military academies.

but i don't think people care abot that image anymore.

we live in 2011, not in 1876.

do you think anything about that makes a&m a "cool" or "hip" place to want to visit? what freshman in high school is going to be attracted to your school by that?

im not just talking athletes, but prospective students, and just the public in general. nothing in this ad connects with the majority. and there is no mention of the majority of texas a&m, which is non football and non military, and not impressed by farmer bob and black and white video.

again im only speaking as an outsider. if this is what you want portrayed, then so be it.

In all fairness the Corp block takes up most of the first deck (the background shots).

Agree we need better branding.

That's because the image represents TAMU well. That's mostly what it is. The military part is far smaller than it is portrayed though.

TAMU is very attractive IMO because there's a large number of kids in Texas that don't want to be "hip". They want to be with a bunch of country (down to earth) people who aren't constantly trying to be politically correct. It's a nice change of pace from the rest of the world.

that very well may be true, but those students are not shown in this video. if i know nothing about texas a&m and watch this video, i dont know that this isnt a 100% military school. while the unshown truth, is that it's a 5% military school.

We have an enrollment of 50000 students and turn students away each year. I don't think that we need to repackage our image or change our identity for anyone.

i actually really liked that video, and i'm a nonreg and had no interest in the corps or joining the military

your marketing department's job is to do more than fill enrollment every year. a&m can do that without marketing. your marketing department's job is to sell stuff and make money. there is a reason there are so many "t-shirt" sip fans. that reason is excellent marketing. those people's money is just as good as yours.

I am glad Texas A&M does not connect with the majority. Look at the majority today...low ethics, not hard working, no values, etc.

There is a school about 90 miles away that connects with the majority.

not to connect this to football, but realize that the majority of recruits also just happen to be the part of the majority.

I really like the video. Although a little long, I think the short version will start with the Sumlin bit and the rest of the football highlights.

Sounds to me like AP is a troll that is once again jealous of everything A&M. Why would you come to another teams message board to b&tch about them? He's either an ******* or very jealous.

Do not need to be like every other university in the state and the country. We are different, yet changing slowy each year. It is a interesting time to balance our tradtion and changes coming with the SEC.

If a kid is dumb enough to apply to a school after doing no visit, no research, no talking to people who have gone there and base the decision purely on a promotional video then we really don't need them.

There are certain things that make A&M unique...and if someone isn't smart enough in this day and age to figure out what A&M is about...well, then maybe they shouldn't be coming here.

Look, Texas A&M tries to sell more than being "hip" or "cool." You can go other places if that's what you're looking for. Texas A&M is about trying to mold people into leaders who believe in timeless values. People who are attracted to that idea come here from all over the country. Texas A&M football games are not supposed to be "hip" they are about unity in the student body. Texas A&M student section is about a joint effort to win football games, about being a part of something bigger than yourself.

Now maybe we haven't marketed that idea effectively enough, but I think it comes across well enough to attract some of the best young people to our University.

A&M is a good place to go to school to learn about real life. We are ranked as the #1 public school in Texas and 6th best in the nation. Personally I've always wanted to come to A&M. Even when I was just a squirt. The values that A&M stands for. We are a football school and we love football, but I think most Aggies would rather be an Aggie and lose every single football game we've ever played then give up what being an Aggie means and go somewhere that is in the top 10 every year. Few institutions have changed as much as A&M. Going from a small all male military school to one of the largest most diverse universities in the country. To changing conferences.

OP: A&M has 50,000 students. We are not hurting on recruiting people to come here. We pride ourselves on tradition, hard work, patriotism and service, which was portrayed in the video. I am proud of these qualities A&M tries to instill in its students.

As far as first impressions go, yeah, I agree with the OP inasmuch as they should have used some footage to show that our student body is not entirely Corps of Cadets. Other than that, it's a pretty cool and accurate depiction.

OP there are plenty of schools that kids can go to if they dont want the unique culture A&M has to offer. A&M doesnt need to be just like everyone else.
