Here's the story. Many years ago, Colorado, Missouri, and later, OK fans, coined that name for the Nebraska Cornhusker folks. Make sense, right? Cornhuskers...corndogs. They even wrote a little story about it and put it on their blogs, etc. Then, according to SEC lore, some rival fans, some people say Auburn, lacking one original thought in their little heads, removed the Nebraska name, and placed LSU in there. And lo, a really dumb nickname was born.
For the life of me, I don't understand it. It's not insulting. It's kind of pathetic. Even sadder is when someone comes back and says, it's not corndog, it's cause you smell like stinky carnies. Okay. Still not offended. Don't get it. Don't understand. No connection to anything about LA. There are as many stinky, inbred, toothless, sibling-marrying carny types in AL, MS, GA, SC, TN, ARK, FL as there are in LA. BUT - Ours are different because at least we smell like "eau de gumbo", or boudin or jambalaya for etouffee to go along with that carny smell. And we have a fabulously rich heritage and culture - not to mention football talent - that others so envy. SO, to all of those rednecks trying to offend LSU with moniker "corndog" or "carny stink".....please. We're more offended by the fact that we're sharing airspace in our conference with some of the most unfunniest people around. I would advise everyone go back to their double-wide, sit on the toilet, and start thinking of something else.
