We need t–shirt fans in Aggieland more than ever before. T-shirt fans generate revenue and we will need everthing we can get to be competitive in the SEC. So forget about whatever you used to think about t-shirt fans and repeat after me: "Aggies LOVE t-shirt fans!" "You do not have to go to Texas A&M to be an Aggie." "All are welcome in Aggie land." "If you are from the great state of Texas (hell, even if you're not) you can join us and support the Texas Aggies!"

This old-school line of thinking that we don't need your support if you didn't graduate from A&M has got to die with the Big XII.

WE WANT T-SHIRT FANS!!!!!

No, not really - one of the great things about being an Aggie is no matter where or when you see someone wearing an A&M t-shirt you pretty much know they are a former student. With waves of t-shirt fans, that bond would be lost forever.

there never has been anything wrong with rooting for a school you didn't attend, as long as you KNOW you didn't attend and don't act like a complete dick.

If you choose to be a doooosh about it all then you become classified as a tshirt fan.

WTF?

You can be an Aggie fan, and we'd love to have you, but the current enrollment / ring / diploma is what makes one an Aggie.

So we're all Aggies now?

Disagree completely. You can be an Aggie fan and I will welcome your support with open arms but to be an Aggie is to attend Texas A&M. Any other definition diminishes the hard work and effort put forth by the students and graduates.

if they love the school or contribute somehow.. yup, Aggies.

"t shirt Aggie" here. Been a fan my whole life. Have had season tickets, Gold Century Club Member, 12th Man Foundation, paid for my wife's books, apartment etc (while we were dating) so I feel like I'm a little more than a tshirt fan, just never got the degree. Stayed home and went to TCU after my Mom passed away my senior year in high school.

I wonder if SEC fans make these distinctions. I have a hard time believing all those Tide or Vol fans ever matriculated.

Might need to shed this true fan hierarchy stuff if you want to fit in, fellas.

And you say that we're arrogant?

Do you really think that everyone who wears and aggie t-shirt went to school there? I live in NW Houston and I can tell you for a fact that there are a LOT of fans with aggie shirts and emblems on their car that have never been to A&M much less studied there.

Hell, are you going to belittle all the high school kids that are fans and wear aggie shirts? They obviously never attended so are they not good enough for you either?

You could not have stated it any better. When you embarrass the university I chose, then you embarrass ME. No one takes kindly to that. I think Aggies students and alums will accept anyone's support with open arms, as long as they don't make us look like arseholes in the process. This is how the whole "Tshirt sip" thing arose in the first place. 95% of the dbags who make the sips look bad on these boards, and everywhere in life for that matter, never spent day one as a student there. That's not the element A&M, or anybody else, really wants. You wanna flame me for that opinion, fire away.

Doesn't t-shirt fan imply that said fan is poor in resources and deficient in intellect and makes up for those deficits with a general foulness of character?

As my username states in the early 80s when i graduated high school my dad gave me three choices work ,college ,military, at the time i graduated oilfield was dead ,thought i didnt need school 12 years was enough, left me with one choice best decison i ever made serve my country. That is when i fell in love with TAMU the military ,discipline, history wraped up in it. I may not have gratuated from there but i believe its the gretest school in the state of Texas.

For real. My husband is a Michigan grad but he will defend A&M to the death. He's always rocking his Aggie hat here in Chicago, gives the horns down if he sees Texas gear, etc.

If your dad's money went to College Station, he deserves to be called better than a t-shirt fan...

As long as you represent my school well when you wear purple and gold, I don't care if you have a degree from LSU or not; you're welcome at my tailgate. Your dollar is no less valuable to Tiger Athletic Foundation than mine, so I appreciate you helping to supporting my Alma Mater to the tune of nearly $70M football revenue last year.

No, SEC fans are welcoming of fellow fans, degree holding or not. Proper decorum is more important.
AlexNguyen

It's clearly a pejorative term. If you're a tshirt fan, you're an interloper, a fake. You'll never be as good or as respectable as someone who had the smarts and/or finances to enroll.

It'll be entertaining as hell the first time I read someone here calling an SEC visitor a toothless, inbred tshirt fan.

Dean, if someone really likes america and leads their lives by american values but isn't a citizen would you call that person an american? How about the navy seals? Its someone who tries to emulate them but isn't in the military a navy seal?

There's no formal application process to be an Aggie. There's one to be a student at Texas A&M.

But if you're going to really make it a point to delineate who should take pride in A&M and who shouldn't, perhaps we should all look at the fact that we take a lot of pride in 90 or so complete strangers who do all the work training and practicing and who are actually the ones standing on the field on game day. Perhaps they should start telling us THEY'RE the ones playing the game and we're all "t-shirt players."
