Article in this morning's Baton Rouge newspaper...

quote:
Ausberry said last week that LSU is in final-stage negotiations with a handful of potential foes for the 2011 season opener on Sept. 3 and said it’s possible the Tigers could wind up in another high-profile intersectional neutral-site game.

The most logical regional sites that fit the description for LSU’s needs are the Georgia Dome, Cowboys Stadium in the Dallas area, and Reliant Stadium in Houston

Since the Tigers open the 2010 campaign in Atlanta, it’s not likely they’ll go back there.

Reliant Stadium is already booked on that date, with Houston entertaining UCLA.

That leaves Cowboys Stadium, the 80,000-seat state-of-the-art home of the Dallas Cowboys in Arlington, Texas, as the most likely site for a 2011 neutral-site game.

Would love to see a match-up with the Aggies!

Sorry, that would leave us with one less home game and we apparently like money.

Gee I wonder how much tickets are going to be for that one...$200?? Neutral games are destroying college football and taking away from the fans

A few years ago, I was staunchly against playing neutral site games because I feel the home atmosphere is important to college football. But now, with the amount of neutral site games, I'm not opposed to it. It's something that we need to take advantage of if everyone is going to do it for tv ratings and "exposure" (although I don't believe the location is what drives the exposure, tv coverage is).

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

Look for another Big 12 team to play (other than the Aggies, Longhorns, Bears, or Raiders).

would not be surprised to see a game against. TCU or OU there

I personally wouldn't be very fond of an LSU vs. OU matchup in Dallas. Two out of state programs playing in Texas?
oh no

I saw several of those matchups when I was growing up in the 1990s, and the Aggies won every time!

OU wouldn't play LSU in Dallas...

They already play the sips there. Most schools would rather play home games as they bring more money and incur less costs. Also, you ALWAYS want to play at home.

neutral games are better for the venue, home games are better for the schools.

If LSU plays in Tiger Stadium, the Tiger donors get their seats from the university.

If LSU plays in JerryWorld, the venue (JerryWorld) gets the best seats for itself and forces LSU fans to buy worse seats from a third party vendor like Ticket Master.

A) Fans have to travel farther

B) LSU donors get worse seats than JerryWorld folks

C) neutral sites means no "home" advantage

If you are a mid to lower level donor at LSU, you get worse tickets at a higher price. There are more average fans than fatcats, so they do not do as well with "neutral" tickets.

not a bad record for A&M considering the majority of games played were LSU home games. thanks for the link

aggiealphamale: not sure if this is the answer, but from 1904 - 1914 A&M was a member of the old SIAA (which spawned the SEC in the 20's and ACC in the 50's via the SoCo). here is a link to the old SIAA:

For the SECede crowd, A&M in the SEC would actually just be a reunion of old teams. Not a true succession, as at one time A&M and the SEC were all in the same conference.

BB: yeah who would have figured it was TRACK & BASKETBALL that got the conference going not football. UK was the team that kept to the basketball roots

Interesting history, BB ... I wasn't a football history major, but why the crap were all those games in a row played in Baton Rouge?

Teams play Neutral-Site Games to generate Revenue and increase recruiting presence.

The Arky game already gives us some answer to the RRS in DFW. Plus, LSU ticket sales would cannabalize Arky ticket sales.

We dont need a neutral game to reccruit Houston.

LSU is almost assuredly going to want to be the home team (which entitles only them to host recruits). And it doesnt sound like a series, just a single game. So the recruiting exposure would not be great- even if it was a great single match-up.

This is a deal that a program like Tech or Mizzou ought to look into.

Its amazing how short everyone's football memory is. I remember playing the tigers all the time in the 80/90s as a kid. I doubt we'd play a second game at jerryworld this year.

I would not be surprised that LSU plays a pac10 team or a mid major there. It would make more sense, and LSU has lots to gain by playing in Dallas (just like arkie does).

LSU cancelled the series we had with them. They threw it away, so I don't care what they do.

We cannot have another neutral site game during the season as long as we're playing Arkansas in Dallas.

We played LSU in BR every year I believe from 1959 to 1971. The reason was, as usual, money. Tiger Stadium sold out every game with 80000 in attendance and Kyle Field thru 66 only held about 54000 and we rarely sold out a game, except for tu. Second decks were added in 67 and 68 I believe.

They played BYU in Dallas last year. What's the difference?

Let's dp it! Another high profile opponent on the schedule. Good exposure. Although I'm not crazy about a neutral site in Arlington. Those ticket prices are ridiculous. A home-home series would be preferable. But it would be in DFW where we could do better in recruiting.

Is TAMU making good money on the Arky series?

correct me if i'm wrong, but after this year doesnt every big12 team lose a home game because of the new alignment?

if that is the case, who the hell in the big12 would give up another home game?
