What is a good bar in Bricktown? I am going to the game, so somewhere semi-casual would be nice.

I know i am gettting a week ahead of myself, but I need to find a good bar close to a decent hotel.

I hope I am not ashamed of my Ags on the road....

Makers aint bad. Its kind of a jazz lounge with cigars. It's on the river on the same level/side as Mickey's.

Bricktown Brewery has their own stuff. Its not bad but they have some strange flavors in their beers.

Tapwerks is your best bet if you're a beer drinker and are just looking for a casual bar atmosphere.

Sometimes it has live bands, though, so if you want to avoid that you can always go to Coach's, which is inside the minor-league baseball stadium.

Either way, make sure you go somewhere that either brews its own beer or has a lot of choices on tap -- otherwise you're stuck with 3.2% Oklahoma beer which tastes as good as it sounds.

First of all, Bricktown is 30 minutes from Norman.

If you are looking for places to go to in Bricktown, 2 good places have already been mentioned. I also suggest LIT and the Skirvin, which is also a hotel and a very nice one at that.

The locals, however, head down to Western Ave which is about 7 minutes from downtown.

Was about to say the same. You won't be leaving Gaylord to walk across campus to Bricktown.

If you are looking for a hotel, the Hampton Inn is right there. Embassy, Sheraton, and Hilton are about 1/4 mile from Bricktown. I don't think there is anything nicer than the Sheraton and the club level wasn't that impressive.

Coyote Ugly openned up the week I was there. I'm sure that's what you're in the mood for.

OKC is neither depressing nor a shanty town.

And Sheraton isn't even the nicest hotel on the block. The Skirvin and Colcord are both very nice hotels. Skirvin is Hilton, so you can use your points there. The Renaissance is also much nicer than the Sheraton.

Tapwerks is amazing. Beer from all over and almost all of it is on tap. If you don't like that bar, don't worry! You're in downtown OKC, so there are plenty of other bars around you. Google "downtown oklahoma city" and you should find a couple of good hits. I stumbled upon Tapwerks this way and wasn't disappointed.

O'Connell's is the go-to bar for sooners. Avoid it if you want to leave with your teeth intact.

Howdy! I just so happen to be president of the A&M Club in OKC and came across your post...

While all the bars listed above are great (I actually live in downtown OKC), I wanted you to know that the club has the following events planned, co-hosted by the Association:

Yell Practice:
Yell Practice with be held the night before the Ags b.t.h.o. OU, Friday, November 13th at Coaches in Bricktown, downtown Oklahoma City.

We will be hanging out inside Coaches beginning at 10pm and Coaches will start closing tabs around 11:40ish and make an announcement for us to start heading outside for Yell on the steps of Coaches. Reveille and the Yell Leaders will be there to say howdy and take pictures!

Coaches will have $2 pint domestics and will keep the kitchen open till around 11. Hope you can make it!

Pre-game Tailgate in Norman:
A Club-Association sponsored Tailgate will be held the following day (Saturday, November 14th) beginning at 3 pm. Kickoff is at 6. The location of the tailgate on campus will be announced Friday, November 13. An email will be sent out to club members that afternoon, and we will have information and maps at Yell Practice as well.

Please check out our website for more information. We hope to see you there!

I went to OU for two years before transferring to A&M. Although I haven't been back since I left in 1996 (thank God), O'Connell's used to be a decent sports bar.

FYI, O'Connell's has moved to Campus Corner and is no longer located southeast of Owen Field. I don't know the street names, but it's not on the main drag that runs along the edge of campus, but the other main drag in Campus Corner that T's into that street. It's about 2 or 3 blocks closer to campus from where the Freebirds is located. My Sooner wife and I wind up there just about every time we go for a game because she is good friends with the owners.
