The past six Heisman quarterback winners who have come into the NFL have been Andre Ware (1989), Ty Detmer (1990), Gino Torretta (1992), Danny Wuerffel (1996) and Chris Weinke (2000), none of whom has established himself. Here is my list including non QBs

Ron Dayne

Gino Toretta

Rashaan Salaam

Andre Ware

I didn't think that Ward ever played in the NFL. He was playing for the Knicks.

Although he didn't win the heisman, I believe Ryan Leaf has got to be one of the biggest bust in the history of the NFL.

The way Ron Dayne has been playing, I'd say he'll be considered a bust if he doesn't do better.

I'm a huge NY Giants fan so I may be biased towards labelling Dayne a bust, but Tiki Barber is the center of that offense. Many people expected Dayne to produce, be a combination of Rodney Hampton and Otis Anderson. Not even close in the end.

Chris Simms, he has to have won at least one heisman by his senior year.

I don't know if any of you watched the Redskins first pre-season game... but Danny W looked pretty darn good... he's been a bust up to now... I guess we will see how he does the rest of the season.

Ok

Now for my real response...

O.J. Simpson

I don't care what he did one the field, he really was a bust for the whole murder thing off it.

He was found innocent wasn't he?

Yeah, but Naked Gun is a classic movie, Nordberg!!

There really hasn't been a huge amount of Heisman winner NFL success lately. I'd say over the past 10 or 12 winners that Ricky Williams is probably the most successful, though he certainly shouldn't be considered the best running back in the NFL, that's for sure.

Eddie George has been better than Ricky.

Heismans that lived up to hype: Marcus Allen, Bo Jackson, Doug Flutie (CFL), Herschel Walker, Tim Brown, Barry Sanders, Ricky, and Eddie. The older ones I'm not sure of. I know the names, but not their track records.

I agree with NY Ag. You have to go back to 1997, Tim Brown, to find significant production.

BTW did anyone notice Paul Hornung on the Heisman winner list? http://heismanmemorialtrophy.com/winners.htmlIf you read "When Pride Still Mattered" you got a great description of him. Definitely a guy I would have liked to party with. He was Lombardi's favorite player. He is the only player to win the award and have a losing season. NO WAY that ever happens again.

Forgot to mention Eddie. He's done well.

It definately seems that there is a Heisman Jinx. But it would be cool if there was a future Heisman winner in Aggieland right now!

Klingler didn't win the Heisman, but we still made him look bad.

....and the road goes on forever and the party never ends.

By the way, Hornung was the only player on a team with a losing record to win the Heisman. It didn't happen before him either.

Didn't Charles Woodson win the Heisman? He's been doing very well at Oakland.

Hornung won it over Jim Brown. It was quite a controversial vote, too.

Didn't Heupel win the Heisman? We didn't make him look bad, but he hasn't done anything in the show, either.

I know they're not all that recent, but Tony Dorsett and Barry Sanders did okay in the NFL.

Well, in all fairness. The Heisman isn't given out to the player that shows the most promise to succeed in the NFL. In theory, it is given to the best college player. The college game is much different (thank God). Players like Crouch just can't do what they did in college in the pros.

Of course, the Heisman is actually given to the player that doesn't screw up too bad and whose college spends the most money on the campaign.

Twelfthman99 - I couldn't agree more. I almost started a topic to get different opinions regarding the criteria for winning Heisman. I think it's become a sham.

Ron Powlus -- He didn't win the Heisman, but there was so much hype behind him, he was supposed to win 4. He didn't do anything in college or the pros.

In Gino's defense, he was picked late in the draft, not really much of a bust, Ware on the other hand...

Ty from BYU. Goes to show that it is all about the college game, not your future as an NFL'er.
